In the release notes of CO Pro 3.7.8 you will find that the EOS 400D is not supported for tethered operation. This might be due to the fact that the newest range of Canon DSLRs operate differently from their predecessors and Phase One has chosen to put the developing effort in their new program, CO 4.
The workaround is to use EOS Uitility for remote control and open the images in CO 3.7.x (either LE or Pro).

Regarding CO4, that is a fully reworked program. The basic version is available and the Pro version expected later this year. New tools, different interface. Best try it yourself (30 days trial, free upgrade for current LE and Pro owners).

Thank you for your reply. The EOS 400D model isn't that new anymore. It's over one and a half years old. Coming month there will even be a 450D.

I'm not really interested in the workarounds. From what I see, the "new" version Capture One 4 doesn't support tethered shooting for the "old" 400D either?
    If so, when will it?

CO4 does not support tethered operation as CO 3.x LE does not either. CO4 Pro is expected to support tethering (including newer Canon DSLRs).

I am not in the discussion of what is new or old. I tried to explain that Canon changed tethering and that Phase One has chosen to implement it in CO4 Pro rather than CO3 Pro. This is information I derived from several posts here.

So you won't be able to shoot tethered with CO direct until CO4 Pro comes along.

Thanks. When is CO4 pro expected to be released? (I did try the search option in this forum, which is not working for some reason).

No date set yet for CO4 Pro release by Phase One to the best of my knowledge. I expect it later this year.
