Side by Side comparisons and image orientation?

Anybody? Hard to believe no one else ever wanted to do this. Or is the solution so obvious that no one has responded to my dumb question?

I usually use Photo Mechanic to make selects. Photo Mechanic lets you choose horizontal or portrait orientation when comparing. However, I wanted to compare variants, so obviously my only choice for comparing is Capture One.

Even a confirmation that it can't be done would be appreciated, so I know to stop looking and make a feature request.

    Thanks.

    Hi Ric,
I went over your posts several times but do not understand the issue. Maybe it would help when you describe your actions so far. Like this.

In CO6, I select 2 images or variants of a single image. In the Viewer, I choose Multi View (as opposed to Primary View). Now both images show up next to each other. I can change orientation of each separately (Edit All Selected is OFF). I can zoom in each individually and select the enlarged part of each.

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I will try to be clearer. I am using C1 Pro 6.2.1 on Mac OS 10.6.7. Everything you said in your example description above accurately describes my working experience except "I can change orientation of each separately". I'm not sure what you mean by "change orientation".

I know I can rotate them clockwise or counter clockwise separately and zoom in and move around each separately. (I wish there was a button or command to lock scrolling so I didn't have to remember to hold down "shift" when I want to move them together. Again, PhotoMechanic has this feature).

Back to my questions: When I choose 2 horizontal (landscape) images they appear one above the other. Once I zoom in on each image to compare an area of interest they remain in horizontal mode. The same is true for 2 vertical (portrait mode) images. I would like to be able to change the view so they appear side by side (portrait) OR one on top of the other (landscape). I cannot find any command allowing me to do this.

I did find a partial solution. After looking at the documentation for Adobe Bridge I found that it works similarly to C1-- By resizing the preview window the images will at some point snap to the orientation I am looking for. Why and when it switches isn't very intuitive (to me), but at least I found this solution. I wish the C1 Pro documentation was better.

Please let me know if you have any better solutions!

    Thanks!

    Hi Ric,

I think I begin to understand your issue. 😂
With 'change orientation' I indeed meant that you can rotate an image clockwise or counterclockwise.

I think you are after a way how 2 (or more) images are displayed in the viewer in MultiView: a) one above the other or b) one next to the other. This is automatic in CO6 and there is not way or shortcut key to manipulate this as far as I know.

However, I discovered that the location of the Browser (thumbnails) affects the choice of display (a or b). In my setup, with the Browser below, two images in MultiView are always displayed next to each other. With the Browser at the right, CO6 switches between display method a) and b) depending the orientation of the images (in landscape or portrait). Fortunately, there is a shortcut to move the Browser below or to the right (Sh+Cmd+B). Even when in MultiView with two images selected, changing the Browser's locations afterwards will change the display immediately.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for giving the shortcut for changing the position of the Browser (Sh+Cmd+B).

Depending on the images and the window size this will sometimes force them to change orientation. However, I still find that I sometimes need to play with the window size until the images snap into the orientation I want.

At least I now know how to make side by side images appear in the orientation that I want. Thanks for your help!
