Edit with is still there. Also the only plugin that is currently to be found in the Plugins section of Preferences seems to be one (developed by Phase One themselves) that allows you to choose which apps appear on the Edit with and Open with menus.

I cannot find the "Edit with..." menu item in Capture One Express Sony 12.

Under preferences - plugins there are "allowed" applications listed, but not the one I want to use and I cannot select/deselect any of them. I just get a warning sign.

Do I assume correctly that since the plugin system is missing from the express versions that the "Edit with..." is not available any more in Capture One Express Sony 12?

That could be a possibility related to the technical changes. Whether intentional is another matter.

I would suggest that you create a Support Case and ask for clarification.

Is there any possibility to add hotkey for "open with" and "edit with" in 12?

Just add the shortcut to the Keyboard shortcuts under Edit - Edit Keyboard Shortcuts.

You can't and for a reason.

In CO11, Edit with was a fixed item without sub items. Hence you could assign a keyboard shortcut to it. In CO11, you chose the application to edit with from the Edit with dialog.
Compare this to Open with in CO11, which you could not assign a keyboard shortcut to, because it has sub items that depend on the applications installed.

Now in CO12, Edit with is a parent item (as is Open with), with configurable sub items (the menu expands when you hover the mouse). The Keyboard Shortcut Manager contains only fixed items, not configurable items.

I've created a support case as you suggested and as it turns out the removal of the Edit with menu item in the Express version was unintentional. It is now treated as a bug.

Could you find "Edit with" in keyboard shortcuts? Why do you give advice without first making sure that it is correct?

Hi, R_Yosha, we all make mistakes, unintentionally. In CO11 and earlier you could make a shortcut for it, but in CO12 it has changed. A user responds here often by what he recall and offers advice.

Fortunately, we now know how it works and why, thanks to those asking and those answering. Great community.

Same here with the Fuji vision of capture one express there is no edit any more.. and then there is no reason to use it all .. just wait to do any work before Luminar 3 and libs comes out.. as a fuji use LR is not really a way to go. and TBH i was thinking of geting Capture one 12 full vision .. but as it is stil now i really don't think its worh it.. and not talking about the RAF files we know that capture is going a good job.. i just fell that the hole system is like poor vision and feels like it will crash any min looks like cheap software

Apologies for the wrong information it was given in good faith. It worked in V10 and V11 but has been changed in V12. Thanks for your understanding.

The missing Edit with is acknowledged as a bug in Express. At least that is what I understood from a Phase One reply to one of the threads on CO12. R&D is working to fix it.

    Interesting.

Does that man that Express is to include Plug In functionality AND that Plug Ins are intended to have Short Cut key functionality?

Or will Express 12 retain the functionality (presumably) in V11?

Plug In functionality would, surely, be a logical benefit of Pro versions.

However from a user perspective where the user only wants a RAW conversion it would offer a lot for an Express user.

    Just 'thinking aloud'.

My understanding is that CO Express 12 will retain the functionality in 11.

The plugin feature is a Pro feature. See also the comparison Express - Pro on the Phase One website:

    Thanks for the info Paul.

So that means the 'old' method will be supported in Express but not Pro?

And therefore short cut keys should work in Express but not Pro?

And then we have the small anomaly that at launch the third party proposed Plug-ins seem to be Mac only.

I guess things have to start somewhere.

Fortunately I very rarely use 'Edit with' so at the moment this is of no concern to me. It may, however, confuse some people.

To summarise my understanding of this case:

Both Edit with and Open with will be in Express as it is now in Pro, so no shortcuts. The fact that Edit with is missing in Express 12.0.0 is an error.

To be clear, this is not an official statement from Phase One, unless they choose to endorse it, but my take on it. 😉
