Managing and renaming folder in Catalog.

I think the most common way of working in C1 (but not the only way) is that the files are in folders in OSX file system, but the images in C1 are organised into Groups, Projects and Albums which can match the OSX folder structure, but typically does not.

For example, on my OSX file system, I have folders titled "EM1-2015", GX7-2014", "GX7-2015", "GM1-2104", "GM1-2013", and these are all in the "Photos" folder. Images imported from a camera go into the folders sorted only by camera and year; this structure helps me keep the image numbering in sequence, serach for missing images, nothing more. I never manage this folder structure with C1, except that I use the C1 import function to put new image files in the right folder. I rarely move or rename folders - no need.

But in C1, I use a catalog structure based on Subject and Project, and this is what I manage with C1 - For example Projects are "Moon Shots", "Sunset Shots", "Stockholm shots", "Birds", "Rockies", "Family", and albums below may subdivide the area still further. The C1 album "Wildlife" in the Project "Rockies" may hold images from many cameras and many years, and consequently the files may be in many folders in the OSX files system - and some images files in the OSX file system may correspond to images in several albums in in the C1 catalog structure - but C1 takes care of the OSX file details invisibly, I never worry about them. I only manage the C1 catalog groups, projects and albums with C1.

Again a very clear explanation Eric of the abstraction layer that a catalog actually is. Awesome.

The internal organisation (groups, projects, albums) is fully independent from the external organisation (on disk) for a referenced images.

A big thank you for your answers.
    Thinking this way seems logical.
I made an other test renaming a folder from the OS and the relocating in Capture was flawless.
Maybe it was the computer the last time.
    Regards.
