Tethered Capture w/A7rII and Apple MBP 2016

Capture 1 Pro (for Sony) doesn't recognize my Sony A7rII when I try to connect it to my new Apple MacBook Pro 2016. The MBP doesn't have the normal USB 3 connectors, but I have the appropriate dongle. I am using the Sony cable connected directly to the dongle which is plugged into the UBS C port on the MBP. The Canon cable and the Apple dongle work fine for transferring photos to the Mac - so I know the cable/adapter is working fine. The A7rII gives me four choices for the USB connection: Auto, Mass Storage, MTP and PC Remote. I have tried them all and none work. Sometimes the camera gives me an error message to check the connection but it also hangs trying to connect without an error message.

The A7rII is supported in Capture 1 Pro. Any suggestions on how to make this work?
