Open as read only message
Lately when I've tried to open my catalog, I get a message that says "Open 'Catalog name' as Read Only?"
Then it says "my name" is already using this catalog. Open 'Read Only' to review the catalog, use Save As...to make changes."
I only use one account on my computer so I'm puzzled why I am getting this message. Any ideas?

It froze on you when you were doing something; most likely you asked it to do 2 things too close together.
I have gone through about a dozen of these since v6.0. I just do a "save as Cat name #", where # =12 for my last one.
It seems to have all the info I had in the read only file.0 -
Thanks Jim, that is likely my problem as the program just crashed before that and probably why I got the message previously.

I've had the same problem a couple of times. I've just ignored the message, saved changes and when I re-open MP, all is fine.
I think you're right about either giving MP too much to do, or interrupting it!

I just recently purchased Media Pro and converted my Expressions Media catalogs to Media Pro files. Now, every time I open the converted Media Pro catalogs I get the "Open .... as Read Only?" message. The rest of the message says that I (my user name) "is already using this catalog. Open 'Read Only' to review the catalog, use Save As.... to make changes."
So I open as Read Only, then save it back to disk using the "Save" command, and also save it using "Save as..." under a new name. I close the open file, then try to reopen either of the two that I've just saved: Same message as above. I created a new Media Pro catalog, imported a few pictures into it and saved it, giving it a completely different name than any I'd used before. Same result: When I try to open that newly created file I get the "Open as Read Only?" message.
Media Pro seems to be stuck in some mode that sees every catalog it creates as being in use when I try to open them. I am the only user on this computer. Any ideas on how to fix this?
I'm using version 1.1.0.52551 on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.2.0 -
I am also experiencing this "Read only ....." problem. I just want to set up a search of my catalogs and go on to other things. I do not want to sit and monitor the process. I have used iView Media Pro and do not recall this being a problem. It definitely was a problem on Microsoft's version and it continues to be a problem with Media Pro. I purchased the Phase One product specifically because I thought they would have fixed the problem with the software. It is my understanding, that the problem lies with the program generating "hidden files" and that removing these files solves the problem. In my experience, it does, but only for that session. It is necessary to clean up the folder each time. This software is just not working for me. I use Apple computers (Snow Leopard) and the latest version of the software. I must be missing something.

My sense in following this forum is that MP has more problems running on a Mac than it does on a PC with windows 7. The only problem I encounter (with photos) is the one I alluded to above. I can crash the program if I try to do multiple things when it is v busy in doing something else - like a save or a rebuild. And saves seem to take a very long time after a lot of new files or rebuilds - so I am patient.0
