Frankly, I want the best possible raw conversion available whether it comes form from Phase One or a third party. I want the competitive dynamic at work here. The P45 digital back engineering team needs to build the best back. The C1 software team needs to build the best software.

Competitive market dynamics is one of the factors that keep these guys sharp and continually developing better product solutions.

If a third party can achieve great results ... terrific! I want more choices.

I am in total agreement with you, however, my point is regarding the Phase One's stated marketing objective. In the interview with M. Reichmann, the president of PO justified the premium it charges for its products in two words: Total Solution. The best possible performance and services for the best product at a premium price.

I bought the concept, and am just reminding Phase One that its performance on its flagship product may not be the best.

    😕
last year, i used C1 Pro to process my 1Ds MkII's raw files. I found that details in shadow areas were smeared, no matter what level noise suppression was set. (compared to RawShooterEssential and Canon DPP...perhaps that is why Michael Reichmann of Luminous Landscape, in his P25 vs 1Ds MkII review, concluded P25 gives more details in shadow than Canon.)

i thought, maybe C1 as a 3rd party software to canon, did not manage to (or have to) support 1Ds MkII so well...

now that i've switched to this really really expensive P45... it is really horrible to realize C1 does not do the best, even with the flagship P45?
