C1 pro 4.6.1 comments
First off, I do like C1 4 Pro. It's tethered capture is fast, it can hold many more in memory without seizing (as C1 3 does), the display of previews is faster and better, processing files is quicker and style application is enhanced. The interface is good, taking a while to get used to, but some pleasant surprises...
... But ...
Normal operations are terribly slow, selecting drop down menus, opening sessions, tagging, even typing renames (if you have 2 or more sessions open).
I use C1 for fashion shoots; we shoot upwards of 1000 pictures a day in 10 to 20 sessions. It would be great to have several sessions open at once, but after 3 or more C1 almost grinds to a halt and the beachball is an almost permanent fixture.
It's fine if you only have one window open, but that defeats the object.
Open a session while it's processing and the batch queue stops with an error. The batch queue frequently stalls anyway. As an aside to programmers, if you detach the batch queue the text overruns the box. The preview gets stuck in its first pass (soft focus effect). Run a batch processing whilst shooting (never much of a problem in v.3) and the whole system grinds to a halt.
If I only use one window and frequently restart C1, it works quite well, but as stated before, it defeats the object.
All this on a quad core Mac Pro with 4GB Ram and a P30+ on a Hasselblad 503CW. With v.3, I ran Photoshop, Automator, and other software as needed with barely a flicker of complaint from C1 3.
I have run all sorts of maintenance software to account for any glitches with my machine, so it's not that.
Suffice to say, I'm reverting back to v3.7.9 until some of these problems are addressed.
And finally. I use a 400GB drive as the work drive for all the tethered shots. When it gets to about half full the capturing slows right down, though this happens in v.3 as well
