User interface renders very slowly in C1 5.2
I have just installed trial copies of version 5.2 on a 5-yr old notebook and a newly upgraded desktop, but I have a problem with the desktop installation. The entire user interface is very slow to render (quite a few seconds between the first few parts and everything being visible) and the same thing is affecting all the menus and tool tabs. Clicking on each tab's icon results in a wait of about 1-2 seconds before the new tab begins to be rendered and another 3-4 seconds before the tab's contents are completely visible. Drop-down menus (File, View, etc.) are affected in much the same way. All very shaky and jerky.
No other software exhibits this or any similar issue; just Capture One. The desktop is a decent spec: 4GB of RAM and a Core i5 661 (I'm using its integrated GPU but the driver is up to date and it handles other graphical tasks well). Neither the RAM nor the CPU are being pushed at all by Capture One. Loading and editing of RAW files is absolutely fine. This problem is not exhibited on the much older and much lower spec notebook, which uses the same OS (XP), the same security software, and virtually the same selection of apps.
Because this is a fresh rebuild, Windows XP has been recently installed. The only trace of the previous version of C1 is the proxies folders in each of my image folders. I want to stick with C1 if I can so that all my old edits of the last 3 years are not lost. But with the menus behaving like this, C1 has become practically unusable. I have tried thoroughly removing all traces of the trial copy and reinstalling it, but the problem persists.

Difficult to say. Do you perhaps open a large folder with hundreds of images? This can slow down CO5. To be honest I more suspect the Core i5 with integrated GPU in relation to WinXP and CO5. Can't put the finger on it though, no experience with it. Any other (happy) Core i5 users here?
Maybe you should create a support case and go through all details with Phase One support staff.0 -
No, I opened a folder with only 5 CR2 RAW files in it and, as I mentioned, the system wasn't being pushed. The RAM footprint was relatively small.
Version 4 used to run fine with much less RAM (1GB) and a much slower 5yr old budget GPU (300Mhz I think, compared to the new 900Mhz) and less GPU RAM. I'm not certain about the notebook's ATI mobile GPU, but it's not going to be up to much, I think. I just can't work out how two examples of much less powerful hardware can/could run C1 quite well without this problem, so I sort of doubt that hardware is to blame.0 -
I just tried to lodge a request for tech support, but found that it is only for registered products. (If anyone from PhaseOne reads this, maybe you should change that so that users of trial versions can get support: if I can't get this issue fixed, you will miss out on a sale). 0 -

Skip the registration field. Does not apply to Capture One users, either licensed or in trial-mode.0 -

Just so there is no confusion, the "Registered Product" field is not required. Only the fields that have an asterisk (*) next to them are required to go forward, and even then that information is just for the supporters to reference so if you're stuck... just lie. The only field that I can see causing confusion is the asterisk next to "Phase One Digital Back", but that only comes into play if you choose a Phase One Camera. The example below is all you need fill out in the future;

I have started a support request, but the given suggestion to install version 5.1 has made no difference. I have not had a reply since then. It looks very much like I will have to give up on Capture One and find an alternative. It's a real pity because I always really liked version 4 and I wish that I hadn't needed to reinstall Windows. 0 -
It's true that the supporter has not gotten back to you but to be fair, that Supporter is based in Australia so the time difference seems to be playing a part. 0
