Mac OS 10.4.9 update with tethered Canons -
Hello-
Checking in to see if others have had luck with tethering Canons to Macs running the new OS 10.4.9 with IOUSBFamily.kext version 2.5.9. I have made the upgrade and everything is working fine. Apple mentioned that this system upgrade would enhance tethered RAW capture support or something to that nature.
Like many others here, I went through the process of installing older (v 2.5.6) versions of the IOUSBFamily.kext on account of tethered problems with Canon cameras. I had also not been updating the system software as a prevention of similar problems.
But the new OS 10.4.9 with IOUSBFamily.kext version 2.5.9 seems to be working well. Anyone else?
Thanks,
Alex

Hello Alex,
I did the complete new installation of MAC OS 10.4.9, using a Canon EOS 5D and latest Canon drivers. Canon software is working perfect, even on USB.
I contacted support first to get infos about supporting that mixture of OS and P1Pro software. They mentioned, that I should use 10.4.9, but offered to install patch versions of the USB software.
What happened:
- Canon software worked perfect; remote control and data upload to MAC (MAC book Pro on Intel) worked fine.
- P1Pro did not work each time; even worse:
- when it worked, the camera took a picture and during upload I was receiving message "Error 88x".
Support now tells me, that P1Pro was never supported on MAC with the Canon.
This is really strange, as all software documents published by P1 is telling me, that this camera is supported.
So, finally I'd like to know more details about the driver installation you did in addition:
I followed one of the past calls from P1Pro support and did an installation of the USB drivers. Unluckily the patch is only available for 10.4.8.
I was lucky, that the system booted after installation, but that also didn't help me a lot.
So, as support does not seem to support me, I really would appreciate your input on any additional installation work you did.
Thank you very much in advance,

Hello Carola-
I am not sure what you mean by "P1Pro" ... Is that a European version of Capture One Pro?
I have not tested my computer with a Phase One back. But I have used Capture One Pro version 3.7.6 with a Canon 20D tethered using USB and it worked great.
Again, I am using the IOUSBFamily.kext version 2.5.9 that came along with the OS 10.4.9 update. I did not have to re-install the older (version 2.5.6) IOUSBFamily.kext file like I did with OS 10.4.8.
Thanks,

Hello Alex,
thanks for your quick reply!
(P1Pro was just a short form for the Phase One Pro...).
In the meantime I was browsing some of the topics in the other items and found one important one:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[color=blue:6f3o8v0i]After the reboot, I opened up C1P and went to the 'Organize Tool' tab and right below it, I pressed the '+' to start a new session. I named it 'New' and then created a new folder where the word 'Capture' was. Then I connected the 5D and everything started working. Took a shot and it loaded right up. [/color:6f3o8v0i]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was one thing totaly missing:
Once you're doing an update, you need to create a new session!
I don't know the reasons for that: But for sure: It worked!
So, I can confirm, that MAC OS 10.4.9 together with Phase One Pro 10.7.6 on a MacBook Pro (Intel) and latest Canon drivers seems to work with the Canon EOS 5D.
Still the Phase One seems to need sometimes several restarts to be able to create the connection to the camera...

Correction on the Phase One Software Version:
So, I can confirm, that MAC OS 10.4.9 together with Phase One Pro 3.7.6 on a MacBook Pro (Intel) and latest Canon drivers seems to work with the Canon EOS 5D.0 -
Okay. I see what you mean. I think I accidentally did that step without having mentioned it - creating a new session. Weird, the fixes that work.
Great, all that is good to know.
Thanks,

Hello everybody,
what I did not understand correctly is, whether this USB - canon 5D problem is solved with G5 Macs as well after updating to 10.4.9?
Wirh Intel Macs I know that it works.
Can anybody tell me?
Thanks in advance

Bernardo,
Update of OS 10.4.9 has resolved all USB driver issues for connectivity.
Intel and PPC both.
Carola,
The Canon 5D files and Tethering is supported in Capture One PRO
In your Support Case you wrote you were attempting to "remote control of camera" which we call Host Capture or triggering a capture from the computer.
Host Capture is supported only for Phase One Digital Backs.
Some DSLRs like the 20D will fire, but not Officially Supported.
Some work while some fail.
If one must trigger DSLR camera from computer and Host Capture fails, then you must use the camera's program to operate camera.[i]

K C0
