Cannot import scanned negatives
I have been trying to scan some medium format negatives using a CanonScan 9000F Mark II and the normal preview app of OSX El Capitan. I have tried to save the scans in the preview app as both PNG and TIFF, both 16 bit and 8bit, both with and without the various compression options but C1 never can import those images into the catalog. When I drag and drop them onto C1 to open the import dialog or when I open the import dialog directly and chose the folder where those scans reside, they never show up in the in the list of thumbnails for import. It is as if the files do not exist. What could I possibly be doing wrong? What would be a reasonable (or the best) file format for negative scans that the OSX preview app (or any other app that is not as expensive as photoshop) and C1 fully support?

CO does not support 8 or 16 bit B&W files, of any format. You would need to convert them into 24bit color.

The images are color images not B&W. So C1 doesn't support 16 bit color? That's weird because because I can import JPG just fine.
Is there an official document that lists all the supported file types and formats that C1 supports for import and/or for working with? I haven't found anything in the help so far.0 -
You will be out of luck if they have an Alpha channel. Is that a possibility?
The release notes may help you.
www.phaseone.com
then select Downloads
A selection box at the bottom of the screen had Documentation listed and the link for the Release notes can be found there.

I had entered a support ticket (207534) for this problem from my scanned images, too. I received this response:
Word is it has to do with the ICC profile comming out of the scanner.
Tiff and Jpeg support
The number of channels must match that of the ICC profile. e.g if an image is Adobe RGB
1998, it must have 3 channels (no alpha etc).
A 4-channel image must have a CMYK profile. Images that do not conform to these
specifications will not display properly in Capture One and may cause instability or crash.
We are working on expanding this support, but currently this is a limitation of the software.0 -

The question now is, how can I make sure that my scanned files meet these requiremts, without Photoshop, on OSX?0 -
I ran into the same prblem and what I do is that I convert the color profile of the Tif-file to sRGB. I made a script for this and it works like a charm.
Glad that C1 is working on it though.0
