deleting variants in smart albums
Hello,
I have a big issue. I organized smart albums by colors to generate differents styles of one series of pictures.
E.g. I have the variants in smart albums A and B. Now I want to delete some variants in Album B because they doen't fit to the style. When I do that the same picture will be deleted in both albums.
How can I manage this? Tried for hours but nothing worked for me.
Thx in advance

A Smart album is a virtual album usually based on some form of grouping - a colour tag or a keyword for example. Or maybe some other EXIF or metadata vale.
If you remove the grouping value from the variant it will no longer appear in the Smart Album.
If you have an ordinary Album (i.e. Not a Smart album) then if you select the image when using that Album to display images in the Browser and rightr click you should see an option to Delete (from Album "Album Name") and that, as I understand it, should dissociate the image from the list of images in the Album but leave it in the files.
It sounds like you are using the full delete image file option - which is not what you want to use for this requirement.
HTH.

If I remove e.g. the color tag then the variant still exists. But I want to delete the variant. If you can create a variant you must also be able to delete it. And it is only logical to use the delete button, isn't it?
As far as I got it until now is that I have to get back to my capture folder an scroll through thousands of pictures to delete the variant. There must be a better way. Maybe I am just to blind to see it 🙄0 -
So you have two smart albums: one of your green variants and one of your red variants, say? Then if you go to All images (not the smart album itself) can you not filter by colour tag and then select and delete the green variants only? That should delete them (and empty the green smart album). You can't sensibly delete things from a smart album that is built from a rule like having a green tag. You either have to remove the tag, or delete the "real" variant not just its appearance in a virtual "smart" album.

You can't "edit with" a variant in a smart album either. If you wan to find the variant simply use the command "find in catalogue" or "find in explorer" (depending on what you want to do) and it will take you straight to it, You can assign a keyboard shortcut to these commands.
Hope that helps.
