Canon 5D MKll ....
Just a quick question...
I have a Canon EOS 5D MKll as a spare Camera. When is it likely I can use it tethered with Capture one software. I am currently using 4.6.3 and shooting to a mac.
Kind Regards.

That is an easy one...
Only those cameras are supported to shoot tethered:
Tethered camera support
Capture One 4.6.3 PRO/DB has tethered support for the following digital backs/cameras:
Phase One: P 65+, P 45+, P 30+, P 21+, P 25+, P 20+
P 45, P 30, P 25, P 21, P 20, H 25, H 20, H 101, H 10, H 5, LightPhase
Additionally Capture One 4.6.3 PRO has tethered support for the following cameras:
Canon: 1Ds Mark III, 1D Mark III, 1D Mark II N, 1Ds Mark II, 1D Mark II,
5D, 40D, 30D, 20D, 450D/Rebel XSi, 400D/Rebel XTi, 350D/Rebel XT, 1000D
Nikon: Nikon D3, Nikon D700, Nikon D300, Nikon D200, Nikon D90, Nikon D80, Nikon D60, Nikon
D40x, Nikon D40
Phase One announced it some times already to be implemented - but you have to understand that they first needed to implement a 600 euro nikon camera for amateurs to be able to shoot tethered ๐
You still can shoot tethered over the canon capture software in the background into a hot folder of C1pro4 like i do.0 -
Unlike simply adding raw file support (which we can do and have done rather quickly in 4) adding tethered support requires the implementation of new SDK (software developers kits) from Canon and Nikon. for a camera to be added to tethered support it must be included the current SDK from each company. It is also a rather time consuming process to implement. Because Canon did not start offering such an SDK until 4.6 was being released, we could not implement it in that large release. The followup releases since 4.6 have been centered around our shipping of the P65+ and optimizing its support, a few simple fixes have been included in there as well as could be accomplished. In the mean time we have been working on new SDK implementation for the next major release: 4.7 coming soon. 0 -

It rather is comming out really soon i hope.
2nd day of 3 day shoot - yesterday i had 12 crashes with 4.6.3 on the shoot. Aside from the fact that it is not a great but ok software anymore it is simple a joke to put a unstable vesion lie that on the market. I only talk straight - you dont give me back those extra time i have to spend and you dont pay my overtime on the job i have due to the messed up system. My only chance by now is to change to an other programm for digital small formats and refuse to work with a P65 due to a non possible working surrounding provided by the developer of that back. It is a shame that i am getting the trouble on the job not you.0 -
4.6.3, while does have some bugs for sure, has proved to be rather stable. This is not my opinion but rather has been found by many techs and photographers I deal with daily. If this is not your experience, and it sounds like it isn't, then we want to find out why and what may cause the problem. Please create a support case and we can hopefully get to the bottom of it o at the very least find a new area to improve stability. 0 -

I have a stable system - it is updated it is up to date from any software or hardware point of view. If you think it is stable - well.. i did not see those techs or photographers that are happy with 4.6.3 now - i only meet techs that still work with 3.x.0 -

Hi,
Do Phase one have the SDK ( EOS 5D Mk II ) from Canon ?
regards
Belinda0 -
I can rather believe that Canon has not yet supplied the SDK...
It seems their 5DmkII release has been not too well co-ordinated. It's been about 6 months since the camera's release, 4 months since I got mine, and to date local Canon Office (South Africa) has not yet been able to bring in battery grips or extra batteries even!
It seems the sharpening and noise reduction issues remains in 4.6.3 (for the 5DmkII)0 -
Yes we do and it is running in Capture One 4.7 right now.
Official release information for Capture One 4.7 will as always be communicated on phaseone.com and in news letter.0 -
re: Support for 5D MKII,
This is good news. ๐
I (plus many other 5D MKII owners) eagerly await v.4.7. to be able to use my camera tethered.
I hope this update doesn't take too long to come out.
I agree with my fellow forum member about Canons failure to provide Akkus (LP-E6) + battery grip on the market. Something is definatly wrong.
What could it be ?
Does anyone know anything ?

I have gotten hold of a battery grip (makes a huge difference in the overall balance of the camera!) but batteries eludes me... not for import, not loacaly, not even B&H has batteries...
I can get third party batteries, but Canon did something to the batteries (I assume in the sensor readings of the battery health itself...) so a third party battery will not charge on the canon charger, only on it's own charger... which is just a schlep... I am definitely not travelling with another piece of gear...0 -
Well - it is a very cheap camera compared to what it can do.
So hell a lot people did buy one..
To much demand ..0 -
Well, I certainly hope the tether support and the 4.7 version comes soon. I bought this camera, not only to use for my own work, but because I still do some assisting, and have had other photog's commit to renting this camera from me. Most everyone, including myself, loves Captures workflow, but no one wants to mess with the Canon Utilities to C1 4 or Lightroom or what ever - fiasco ... and I don't blame them....
That being said, I just lost out on a 1500.00 rental this week because the photog didn't feel comfortable with the workflow of the combined software setup.... so we're renting an original 5D and working with C1 v3 for now.... as soon as C1 v4 is tether compatible with the Mark II (and the bugs are fixed), I'll be VERY happy (and out of debt!!!)!!!0 -
Just tried 4.7 with 5dMkII tethered. It's saying No camera connected. Will keep trying 0 -

Try turning "hot folder" off, if it is on.0 -
Any tips. 0 -
Hot folder is not enabled 0 -
I guess you did try to open a new session and selected tehterd shooting?
Camera resetted and so on?0 -
Yes Just plugged in a P30+ and a Nikon D3 and they both popped straight up as connected. No response from Canon, works with Canon software 0 -

Did you check no Canon software is running when trying to tether with CO 4.7?0 -
I just purchased the 5D Mark II and now have 4.7 installed. I am getting very fast downloads probably due to CDMA card support but I am noticing that the previews seem slow to appear. Also the FOCUSING word does not seem to appear as in the past. Is there a way to get the previews to appear quicker? I have the software set to have them appear immediately. 0 -
Ok next issue. I just did my first studio portrait shoot with the 5D Mark II.
When I went to process the files I am getting green in the shadows. Really very green. The people are wearing black but the previews looked fine. I shot with 4.7 and am trying to process with 4.5.2 because my PPC Mac doesn't seem to do well with any later versions of C1. The files look fine on my Macbook Intel and process fine with ACR. Does this mean that 4.5.2 can't even support processing the 5D 2 files. Can I use 4.7 on the PPC?
This is just one more compatibility problem. I know the party line about using C14 Pro on PPC Macs but is there a way around this. I really do not want to have to buy a new computer now unless I can get some of the stimulus package.0 -
The Canon 5D MkII raw/sraw file is supported from CO 4.6 onwards. I believe there was a pre-luminary support in 4.5.2 with a lot of green. Oh, you noticed that already. 0 -
Oh I noticed it alright!!! It produced quite q few beads of sweat. Is there a version of 4.6 that will run on the PPC Macs?
Will 4.7 run? I really do not want to have to stop using C1Pro to process my 5D 2 files.0 -
You can *try* to run 4.7 on the PPC... its not designed for it, but neither was 4.5.2. I suspect it will work since our earlier version seems to be running. No promises though ๐ 0 -
Thanks Jon and Paul,
On a first attempt the 4.7 seems to work although slow in the processing. I am willing to wait if that is the only problem.0 -

Hmmm, All OK here-- I did have the error appear but when I turned off the Canon EOS Capture software ( Which popped up ) and fired a shot it enabled 5D11 /etc to appear in the Camera Box--all seems fine at this time.
Notice you cannot fire the Camera from the Spacebar as before?
DesW0 -
got it working, thanks for all your suggestions. It was just conflicting with the canon software. 0 -
All working here too, which is great after struggling with the Canon software in the background (although I did like being able to adjust the camera settings on screen - any chance you could incorporate some this functionality in the future Phase?).
But... Does anyone know how to stop the Canon software trying to connect to the camera and popping up an error message every time C1 makes a connection?
I've looked and looked for prefs for this but had no luck. I don't particularly want to uninstall the EOS Utility but it's looking like the only option at the moment as every time the camera goes to sleep and wakes another error message pops up, which is quite annoying!0
