Layers and other functionality disappeared
I'm a total newbie trying out Capture one 11 for Sony
I installed capture one and managed to edit quite a few arw pics. I exited capture one and the next day when I reload it and brought back the pictures I was working on, the layers and save functionality were not available. What is going on?

Were you running the 30-day trial? Maybe it expired?
Were you using Capture One in Express run mode? This mode doesn't have layers.
Tell us a bit more…0 -
It is the trial version but this only my 4th day.
Yes you are correct I just check in 'about' it says sony express but it no longer gives me the option to run sony pro, it defaults to express. Initially this was not the case, I could choose one of three: express, sony pro and capture one pro.
Is there a way to get the sony pro option back?0 -
Yes it's in the menus somewhere. I'm a macOS user, but on Windows I think you can change your run mode (licence) in the Help menu. 0 -
Thank you so much! I found it, as you said in the help menu.
That is a strange place to put it by capture one. I don't have a license so capture one should not expect me to look there.
Thank you for your time and effort.
You are a star!! 😄0 -

Where should they put it?
Bear in mind Express is a Free option for Sony users. Once selected, just like the DB version for Digital Back users) there is no reason to keep asking people about which mode they want to run.0 -

Well for the other trials it does ask every time you start capture one, so to suddenly change that behaviour and expect a newbie to know what is going on, is not reasonable. I clicked on the help menu, had they put all three trail versions there as first level menu items to select or deselect I would have seen them.0 -

There is no special trial version. However many menu items are context sensitive - in this case the context of whether or not an activation might be a requirement. Not required for Express or DB mode.
I take your point but for the location of the function you needed - where else might it go??
Not to worry - the forum is a good source of this type of help.0
