Fill Opacity

I think that there was a solution. From memory, it was that you need to make sure that when you draw the outline of the area to be masked, it all joins up at full opacity. So if you were using a rather large and soft brush, there would be the danger that one stroke round the edge only met up with the next one in the feathered bit of the stroke, if that makes sense. If there is part of the outline that is say only 75% opacity, that is the opacity of the fill.

I hope that makes sense and I haven't gone back to the previous discussion to check whether more was said.

    Ian,
I don't think that was the answer as I (as David did in his webcast) used the brush at 100% opacity.

When the fill was applied you could clearly see that the filled portion was at a lower opacity.

I've had the same thing happen several times.

Yes, you may have used the brush at 100% opacity, but if it had soft edges, did any of the brush strokes overlap only in the feathered bits?

However, that may not be the problem. I have to say that I have never had this happen.

In case it helps, I have tracked down the other thread about this, on the Mac board.

Here is a simple demo of what Ian is saying.

    1. Draw a mask where only the feathered bits at the ends of the line touch:

    2. Select "Fill Mask" gives a low opacity fill:

    3. Now draw a mask so the solid parts overlap:

    4. Select "Fill Mask" gives a 100% opacity fill:
