File numbering bug?
I am tethering a Sony Alpha 9 and the automatic file numbering (sometimes) gets screwed up. I was doing focus stacking and got very weird results when I started to investigate the files in more details. I noticed that the file numbering assigned by Capture One Pro was not in chronological order as reported by the capture time in the EXIF data. Here in one example of an out of order sequence:
File 1: Royal_Samples_1_UPLSAPO_60XW_00984.ARW
Capture Time: 01:09:26
File 2: Royal_Samples_1_UPLSAPO_60XW_00985.ARW
Capture Time: 01:09:38
File 3: Royal_Samples_1_UPLSAPO_60XW_00986.ARW
Capture Time: 01:09:41
File 4: Royal_Samples_1_UPLSAPO_60XW_00987.ARW
Capture Time: 01:09:29
File 5: Royal_Samples_1_UPLSAPO_60XW_00988.ARW
Capture Time: 01:09:33
File 6: Royal_Samples_1_UPLSAPO_60XW_00989.ARW
Capture Time: 01:09:36
If I list the entire sequence of images in true chronological order (capture time) I get the following sequence number order:
77, 78, 79, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 87, 88, 89, 85, 86, 90, 91, 93, 92, 95, 102, 99, 96, 103, 100, 97, 94, 101, 98
Anyone know what is going on here? Either the Sony Camera buffer sends the images in the wrong order to Capture One or Capture One mess upp the file numbering after they have been pulled from the Camera.

It seems you're using part of the original camera file number in the new file name. If that is the case, the camera is doing something weird.
Otherwise, please file a support ticket.0 -
I did not use local camera storage at all and hence there are not any local camera file number. I will file a bug report ticket. 0 -
Looks more like a buffer problem and the order in which the incoming files are being processed once the buffer fills.
In other words the file numbering allocation is in order but the processing that finally produces the time stamped ARW is not.
Or does your sequence of stacked focus images suggest that is not the case?
Does the camera do anything "smart" with focus stacking that might mean the apparently logical sequence is not exactly how the images were taken? (Just guessing there .... trying to cover any possible obscure angles.)

Thanks Grant,
The time stamps are correct and in line with the stack that was actually shot. The numbering is wrong. In Lightroom, the order is ok, because it sorts it acccording to capture time. When I exported to zerene stacket, the ordering was wrong because it relied upon the file name numbering. Capture one should verify that the order in which they recieve the images from the buffer indeed is in chronological order. I guess the camera may be buggy as well, so I do not blame ohase one.0 -
I think the best option would be to create a Support case with Phase and help them to investigate what certainly looks like a technical matter.
Presumably they have or can obtain useful technical information from Sony that relates to this.
