Suppressing pop-up information windows
Is there a way to stop C1P opening an information window at each item when I move the mouse down a menu list? When I browse a list of filters, for instance, the pop-ups obscure too much of the picture, sometimes making it hard to judge the effect of each filter.
I know each pop-up disappears after a few seconds but waiting for each one to do so makes it a slow business to scan a list to judge which filter to use.
(I'd post a screen grab but can't see how to upload it.)
TIA,
Roger (using version 9.1 under Windows 8.1 64-bit)

I don't regularly use filters so claim no special expertise but I have noticed that the Styles and Presets tool seems, these days, to be set to avoid covering the main viewer area of the screen with its pop-ups. Instead of displaying to the right every time it will place pop-ups on the left - or at least it does on my screen.
Would that help?
Failing that, no, I'm not aware of any tweak that would disable the information display - but others may be.
HTH.

Thanks, Grant.
As it happens, I've reverted to v9.03 because of my TIFF output problem (with the support team) and am now seeing no pop-ups. I wonder if it's a 9.1 feature.

If by pop-ups you mean the little windows with a whitish background that indicate which tools are contained in a style then I don't think they are new per se. I don't recall positioning to the left previously - but then as I mentioned I am not a regular styles user.
For example images (and files in general) you would need to host elsewhere and link to the file.

You can't upload images to the forum directly.
You need to upload them to a hosting site that allows linking.
You can then embed the image's web address in "img" tags to display it in a post on the forum.

Thanks again (and to Richard). Too much of a faff for me.

Roger,
Is this what you mean? (click for full image):

Richard,
Which release is that example taken from?
My 9.1 installation has the first sub level to the right. But the third and fourth levels stay to the left.
I'm not aware of any user settings that can influence the positioning. I think I prefer it since currently I cannot think of any negative consequences.
Presumably this might just be a Windows thing?

It's from v9.1

I have tried various things such as shrinking the main window very small, and switching to the default workspace, but I always get the same layout with the menus and tooltip cascading from left to right.
Then I tried View -> Place Tools Right
which gave me:

One way for the OP to be able to see more of the image would be:
1. Hide the viewer in the main window (View -> Hide Viewer)
2. Shrink the main window as much as possible and move to the left of the screen.
3. Open the separate viewer (Window -> Viewer)
4. Move the separate viewer to right and resize.
5. Save this as a new workspace (Window -> Workspace -> Save Workspace...)
Which would look like this: (click to see full image)

Well that's interesting.
My installation, set to display the tools on the right of the screen, cascades them to the left (so they start to cover the viewer window in a "standard" workspace setup).
Move the tools back to the left of the screen and the first part of the cascade is to the right but the second part goes left and the 4th part (information rather than a sub menu list) also goes left if there is space, If not it positions up or down against the left side of the visible screen.
This suggests there are some parameters somewhere that are affecting how things work but what and where (and whether, theoretically, they could be user controlled is not immediately obvious. It might be more obvious to a GUI control expert.

Thanks, Richard, and sorry to be slow in responding -- the forum's not sending me update notifications.
It's only the pop-up info windows I'm bothered about, and their behaviour seems to be unalterable.
