    Just saying:
You really have to have a big set to advise your users to NOT upgrade their entire Operating System until you finish playing catch-up with your own software.

So what do you suggest as an alternative? Rushing out a partially compatible or effectively incompatible release just to satisfy your expectations?

Like it or not, if they're not ready, the only sensible option - and seriously, it's idiotic to expect anything else - is for Phase One to hang fire until the time is right: about the only thing that gets users bitching more than a late release is a release that isn't ready (cue unending "I didn't pay good money to be a beta tester..." whining).

If you don't like it, find something else that does the job to your timescales. Y'know, being a pro and all, surely your priority is to use what works, rather than to waste your "valuable" time complaining pointlessly (you communicate issues to Phase One via support cases) on a website forum...

Oh - and while we're on, have a look at rule 10 of the forum rules.

    Hi,

    there a 2 small problems

    1. If you need now buy a new Mac (you old Mac is faulty) then you don#t have a choice. Maverick is ob Board
    2. Phase One developers get a few weeks earlier, the sources before it enters the market. It would be better to inform the customer "Don't Update to XYZ" before the publication date.

    @Chawn_Crawley

The are some another programs that are incompatible with Maverick. As example WD hard disks lose their data since the software is incompatible with Maverick.

    Bye

there are good reasons to upgrade to maveriks as there are also good ones to wait. anyway this is not the real problem here. for me it seems there is a general mac development quality problem since p1 going cross platform. in the end it does not really matter if you upgrade or not because co is buggy and not very stable whit 10.8 and 10.9 if you have bad luck. even their ios software does not work as aspected. to make things worse p1 made the "business" decision not to adapt their software prior to the final os release but instead and as aspected blame the delay on apple. this all leads to the question do we have to go through this every 12 month now because apple will release os upgrades in 1 year intervals or will p1 move and step up their mac development efforts ? if not i´m sure i will abandon co completely because image quality wise there are already extrem good alternatives on the market.

Clearly not the problem Chawn faces, Robi:

advise your users to NOT upgrade their entire Operating System

Unless Mavericks is a mandatory upgrade that Apple forces people at gunpoint to upgrade to, this is a complete non-issue. What possible "problem" is there for Chawn in continuing with the current - and obviously fully functional as far as Capture One is concerned (or at least as functional as it's likely to be under Mavericks) - OS version?

I guess if you guys can vent... I should be able to as well... 😄

...I have 152 applications on my system; only one of them can't play ball with Mavericks and only one of them actually advises not to upgrade my OS for sake of their complacency.

Out of 152 applications, this seems like a ridiculous statement. Somewhere in there is an application that, at it's heart, does NOT support 10.9 OS. Does it seem to work? Maybe, but if you had a problem using it what is the company going to tell you?.. "Sir, it's not supported in that OS". Further, I don't think you're using 152 applications on a daily basis to the full degree of their operation so maybe they seem to work but if you dug in deep, they'd have conflicts just as Capture One. Should I mention that even Apples own programs aren't 100% up and running after the 10.9 update? Apple Mail anyone?

What I find most discouraging about this post is that we, the supporters of Capture One, are an easily available and upfront bunch. We don't skirt the issues, we face them head on and speak straight. That straight-talk everyone seems so keen on asking for only gets us into a world of criticism when it's not what users want to hear. Of course we don't want to deliver bad news, but sometimes that's just how it is. In this case the SUGGESTION was to wait before updating to 10.9 as there do seem to be some conflicts. In my opinion it's better to find advice from a company proactively trying to help than have to discover the issue for yourself.

Of course Apple provides 10.9 prerelease's and we use them to build software in preparation. The only problem is what we get in early October, and what ends up being released in late October are often different. Did anyone notice that a 7.1.5 came out for Windows immediately after the 10.9 release? It typically follows an Apple release would too, but perhaps one didn't because the 10.9 we built 7.1.5 for wasn't the 10.9 that showed up in the Apple Store that day...hmmm.
The solution? Just give it a few weeks and we'll get you up and running. It's been less than 3 weeks.
You're of course more than welcome to use Capture One 7.1.4 on the 10.9 OS. I am as we speak, it certainly works but there's some bugs that prevent it from being a smooth transition. If I were heading out on set tomorrow, I'd be using my backup 10.8 system and waiting for everything to "break in" with the new OS.

... and "complacency"? Really? We're just trying to help you from getting in a tight spot with a customer or deadline, nothing more. We're a small company and we're working on it... give us some time and you'll be all set. Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime and thank you for your patience.

I read the Macworld review of Mavericks.

    - Most positive aspect: It's free.
    - Most negative: Apple messed up Mail some.

    A compelling upgrade indeed.

    Cheers,

It seems there may be some hope for rapid response from Apple.

Don't forget Maps and iBooks - real compelling reasons to update a production machine!

Strange how Mr Crawley seems to have disappeared.

If only he had tested Mavericks on a separate partition/hard drive/computer, and NOT tested it on his main system until Phase One had given the all clear.

Still, you have to admire his 152 applications working - that is impressive and makes him far superior to myself with only 15 applications.....

Regarding his sudden absence on this post, hopefully he's working on his web site and his client list....

While I haven't used it in anger yet; I have just spent the last 2 hours or so processing images using the evaluation version of C1 in 10.9. No major hiccups and stunning results, seems like a winner to me! 😊
