cannot get the apply adjustments to all selected

I have the icon checked in the top menu bar so that it now says edit selected variants and shows orange. I have clicked the "up" arrow and the down arrow, tried using the menu etc. Nothing will copy the adjustments from one image to the next. I have searched the forum, and the only help I have seen is to make sure the menu bar icon is clicked and orange, which does not work for me.

  I think you need to hold shift down whilst clicking the down arrow to apply to all selected.

  Can you copy/apply adjustments from source to destination by other means than the up and down arrow? There are quite a number of options, for example:
  
  - Shift+Cmd+C / Shift+Cmd+V
  - Adjustments menu
  - Adjustments Clipboard
  
  Next, after you invoked the Copy command (through one of the options), the Adjustments Clipboard will show the items checked that will be applied and the name of the source file. Check this first. If this does not show, nothing will be applied in the second step.
  
  Also: have you selected the destination image(s)?
