C1LE - White (dead) pixel visible, but not in other programs
I'm using C1LE v3.7.1 - and I have noticed that I have a white (dead) pixel in all of my RAW images (in the bottom right hand quadrant of each image - exactly the same pixel each time)...
JPEG shots do NOT show this white pixel
however, if I load the SAME raw file up in Photoshop CS, the white pixel is NOT visible.
What is going on here?

Would you mind providing us with a sample? 0 -
OK, the first link is the RAW file loaded in C1LE, saved out to a TIFF, then saved to a JPEG in Photoshop CS. Zoom to 100% (thats 1:1 size, not the 100% in C1LE), go to the bottom right hand corner, then head left a bit, and you'll clearly see the white pixel.

The second shot is the SAME RAW file, but opened directly in Photoshop CS, then saved out as a JPEG. No white pixel is visible in this image.

To the best of my knowledge C1LE was not showing this pixel until today. (this shot was taken today). This means that either I have developed a dead pixel on my camera (in which case it would seem odd that the same RAW loaded in Photoshop does not show it) - or something (maybe the auto hot pixel removal) has randomly broken in C1LE.
RAW files shot before today do not show this pixel in C1LE.
I do not know if the RAW support in Photoshop CS includes hot pixel removal, so I am rather scratching my head here trying to work out what on earth is happening.....0 -
This does not really help me, we would need the RAW file I'm affraid. 0 -
ah, ok, - here is the RAW file of another test shot. This was a 1 sec exposure with the lens cap on, and the viewfinder covered.
Spot is in the same location, but in this shot it shows as a blue/grey mark, slightly oblong.
again, spot shows in C1LE, but not if the file is loaded directly in Photoshop CS.0 -
I've just uninstalled and reinstalled C1LE to rule out the installation being a problem for some reason - and its made no difference.
I can't see how it can be any kind of problem with my camera, seeing as the pixel(s) in question do not show in the RAW file when its loaded directly in Photoshop CS, and they are not visible in a natively shot JPEG image, when viewed in both C1LE and Photoshop.
It has to be something to do with the way C1LE is processing the RAW file - but I have NO idea what.....
I've paid for a CaptureOne License, and now its doing this ☹️ - not good ☹️0 -
I do see the dot, but it is also kind of there in ACR, except that ACR is doing sucha bad job at converting so the noise is taking over.
Here is a side by side image, left is Capture One and right is ACR, the dot is a little lower down (centred) but look at the noise! Both Capture One and ACR is on default settings.

hmm... so what does this mean? is it a problem with my camera?
Does the 300D do automatic dead pixel removal when shooting in JPEG? - as that pixel is not visible on a natively shot JPEG image in either C1LE or Photoshop CS.
Also, why would that pixel in the RAW image not show up when the RAW file was loaded in Photoshop CS? Is Photoshop CS removing it automatically? If so - I though C1LE was also meant to automatically remove dead pixels from RAW images too?0 -
When shooting jpg the camera might mapp that pixel out.
If you look in the centre of the right image you will see that it is also there in PhotoShop CS but not as noticeable because of the noise. (This is one of the reason you are using Capture One) the problem lies in the camera.0 -
I just checked some more, and the pixel is also showing up in RSE (Rawshooter Essentials), which I guess means it must be a dead pixel seeing as more than one program is seeing it ☹️
Should I bother sending my 300D back to Canon for pixel remapping just for one dead pixel?
How common is this - do many other people have one or more dead pixels on their cameras? My 300D is less than 4 months old.0 -
This is not that common of a problem.
Weather or not it is worth sending the camera in to Canon I can not answer, I suggest you get in contact with Canon and take from there...0 -
I am a little curious though as to why C1LE is not removing this pixel - I thought that C1LE was meant to include a dead pixel removal function? 0
