Linear DNG doesn't have any benefits. It's not technically a RAW file, closer to a TIFF file.
We needed to support it, however, if we were going to support the Leica Monochrome cameras as these Camera's are not RGB but "greyscale".

Question on the Linear DNG file format. Does this mean you would be able to support the Sigma brand of cameras, if the files are first run through Adobe DNG Converter.

    Thanks.

That good very well be the case. To be sure however I suggest you either a) try yourself, b) post a converted file here and ask for user experience, or c) open a support case.

Well, tried the x3f from my sigma DP1 and CO7 will now load it. Have not really looked at distortion, but colors look good.

Just played around a little bit.
