Dust tool
I hate it when software companies do not have logical and clear manuals.
To the makers of the manual: Please define the terms and words used precisely and stick to the definitions and terms throughout the text. Please do not tell us all we can do, tell us precisely how to do it.
The "manual" says: Choose dust in the drop-down menu. What drop down menu? Where is it supposed to be?
The "manual" says: ... switch between the individual removal circles in the spot drop-down menu: I see circles in the picture, not in a drop-down menu (which I haven't found either yet), oh and is the drop-down menu above the same as the "spot drop-down" menu? No, then where is this second one, yes, use the same term please.
The "manual" says: this way you can change a circle from dust to spot removal: What does this mean? This way... what way? There are circles which are dust and there are circles which are spot removal and I can change one type of circle to the other type?
Before I dish out the upgrade price I'd like to understand. Please, can someone explain to me how this is supposed to work.
Thanks a lot. Cheers, Bob.

I've been having some trouble getting good results with it as well. Sometimes it works great, sometimes it just makes a smaller dot out of the one that was there. I'm sure when it's working right it'll be awesome though, this is a welcome improvement! 0 -
Can you tell me where the drop down menu is? I do not see any drop down menu?
Thanks, Bob.0 -
on mine it's in the tool's little window. But you can't select anything but dust. 0 -
Yes, I see the dust removing function in the drop down menu in the spot removing tool. "Dust" is the only item in the menu. (Mac OS X)
In the User's Guide pdf, the link in the contents (10.7), there is a link "How do I remove dust..." which takes me to page 116 where the tool is discussed. Then there is a link "How do I remove spots..." which takes me to page 117 -- which is blank!
Is spot removal, implemented?
There is nothing in the Release notes indicating a issue with the spot remover.

"Dust" yes, "Spot" no.
"Spot" was in the Beta version but didn't make it in the final release. Certainly will come in an update.
"Dust" is to clean sensor dust... so it works great on uniform backgrounds such as sky and only on spots that are not sharp. It doesn't work - or better: isn't useful - on sharp spots. It's not like the cloning tool in Photoshop; it's more like the healing brush in Photoshop.0 -
One potential reason for confusion - and that this confusion is with Mac users only - is that CO5 non-Pro/DB users do not have the Dust removal tool but still have the tool present in the cursor tool section on the toolbar. Hence, you select the cursor tool and nothing happens. Sorry guys, it's a bug, not a feature! 😉
This bug is not present in the CO5/Win version.0 -

I confirm what other users already wrote : the C1 manual is not the best one of our world.. and it's not really well written to learn using C1 Pro. It's more a marketing features book as a reference user guide ? You have to play and look for the place where tools are and how to use them. But when you have done it, I must admit that C1 Pro is a very good and powerful solution (but people who are reading this, already know it..?)
I'm a little bit disappointed with "dust removal tool" which works fine on uniform round dust; if the dust is more complex it doesn't suit at all. Other effect which can be seen very often : correcting dust at 100% magnification, even if it's ok, will be seen again on "adjusted size" of picture. Here is still a big job to do to reach the level of LR2/LR3.
NB : IMHO, Phase One have to be very careful with what and how they deliver future releases of C1, because LR2/LR3 is becoming better and closer to the best Rawconverters. Conscious of the fact that their features are not the same in all areas.

I've seen, but not every time, depending perhaps of kind of dust, on none processed pictures. Simply when you go back from 100% to "adjusted size" in main window. If you zoom again from "adjusted size" to 100%, it disapears again.
The problem is when you encounter this effect is that you don't know if your correction is right or not...?
