Custom Noise / Sharpening default values not taking?
I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing this problem that I'm seeing in 4.6:
I have custom defaults set for Luminance noise reduction and sharpening amount. Specifically, I have them set to zero for any new images loaded into C1. I'm seeing a weird problem where any new set of images I open up will show the sliders as set to zero, but when I view at 100%, it is actually applying C1's default settings to the image. That is, it IS sharpening the image and it IS applying noise reduction! The noise reduction is especially heavy handed with high ISO images, per C1's defaults. If you process the image it will process with these incorrect values. This is resolved by just grabbing the slider and moving it up and down again to get it to register correctly. From there you can cut and paste that value to the other images in the folder and it corrects them. Not a crippling problem but really obnoxious.
I haven't tested other sliders yet as these are the only one's I have my own custom defaults set on..... but I'm guessing it might be a problem across the board?
Is anyone else seeing this or am I just having bizarre issues on my computer? If you are experiencing this, please put in a support case as I am so far the only one who has.

Saw your post, and double checked it today (previously I mentioned how much sharper the new 5DmkII images look compared to the old 5D but with the same sharpening settings)
Did what you said: move sliders around, and back to original setting, and viola.. different image alltogether...
Have you submited a bug report?0 -
Yes, I've submitted one. If you are seeing the same thing, please submit one as well! So far I'm the only one that has reported this problem. If there are more people they will most likely act on it sooner.

Added bug report...
I don't think anybody even realises this is happening... My initial response was that the new sensor design on the 5DmkII is killer (the space between photosites is much reduced) and that must be why my images is so much sharper at the same settings...
I accidently clicked your posts link instead of another and read it, and only then realised what is happening...
I wonder which other settings I dragged over from previous editions gets stuck like this? have you done any more testing?
I added this screengrab layered file to my support ticket. (2.4mb psd)0 -
Yeah I had the exact same experience as well, also being a new MkII owner. I was floored by the sharpness when I had none applied... until I realized what was going on.
There is perhaps a chance this could be camera specific to the MkII, although it seems an odd bug to be camera specific?
I haven't done much more testing on this, but it seems that it doesn't affect files that have been worked with in previous versions of C1, only new sets of photos opened.
Hopefully some other people will test this out and see if they are seeing the same thing.0 -
Hmmm just got back to me asking for a copy of the RAW file that is creating the problem... It seems support doesn't read the message copy... or nobody at PhaseONE owns a mkii 0 -
Yeah they asked me for the same. I sent it and they seemed to confirm they were seeing the same thing happen. Best just to go through with it so they can test things best on their end. 0 -
I have been trying for most of the afternoon to upload the RAW file they requested, but no luck. everytime I hit an upload error page... did yours go through fine? 0 -
Hrm.... strange. Yeah I had no problem uploading. Try a different browser perhaps? 0 -

FF3 and Safari... I could upload the crash reports, but not the RAW file... I wonder if I am hitting a timeout...0 -
Large files do have a bit of a tendency to timeout... best method of upload is our ftp server: http://www.phaseone.com/HOME/Content/Su ... nguageID=1 0 -
Thankyou Jon... I saw the same on the windows side today at another photographer (also shooting 5DmkII) 0 -
I realized one more quirk with this problem.
I hit the 'reset adjustments' on the sharpening or luminance sliders, it will move the sliders according to my default presets, but the image will actually take the C1 default values. So, for instance, if I already have my sharpening set to zero... and click 'reset adjustments', the slider will stay at zero (per my custom settings) but the image will actually have sharpening applied to it.
Anyone else here besides me and Sean seeing this issue?0 -
Got feedback: Dear Sean,
I could reproduce the problem, alhough the result was nowhere as dramatic as you have shown in the attached psd file.
I have forwarded it R&D who will take over the case from now. In case we will need more information I will contact you again, but hopefully this will be enough to find the problem and correct it.
Thank you very much for contacting us.
With kind regards,
Jakub

I hope they suply a fix soon, because bulk processing is just a pain right now...0 -
I see 4.6.1 came out, but no fix for the noise/sharpening issue 0 -

See 4.6.1 release notes and download page: this maintenance update fixed an issue with the P65+ back.0 -

Yes, I know... does the P65 suffer from the same ailment as the 5DmkII... ie the default settings is incorrect? if that is fixed on the P65, then most probably it would be fixed for the 5D as well?
As on another post, the Known Issues list doesn't mention this, rather serious, bug... so the question remains...0
