no slider adjustment, new trial 4 install

Either I'm dense, or stupid, or both. None of my sliders will change by mouse (or other) on the trial version capture one 4. They appear stuck, possiby the slider knobs are greyed out. I have an image showing in the display are. file is not read only.
I tried reinstalling it, and have dotnet 3 in
Is there some obvious setup I'm missing? I really would like to alter my pictures 😉
Running Xp2 home, brand new licensed fully windows internet-updated install,.
Capture one 4 downloaded very recently, 4.01 14162
and yes I do normally get software to work.. and yes i do already use photo software..

It has to bee a RAW file, You cant change a JPG file0 -
well if my camera hadn't secretly changed mode they would all have been raw..
Yes it springs into life with a raw file...

.... and is you-know who really so awful, or is it just that this software is new and complex, and maybe needs 6 months to mature... I'm almost put off by some of the other posts here.. a difficult thing to assess..0
