Expodisc with Capture One LE & PRO
Can we use Expodisc with C1 LE & C1 Pro softwares ? Does it work ?

Bernard,
It does work. All you need to do is use the Expodisc exposed frame to set white balance, then select the frames to which it relates, and apply that WB to them, using the \"overlapping files\" button at the top right of the White Balance Tab dialog.
I used to use it all the time, but found a reflective reference close to the subject, such as WhiBal, at bit more convenient. Not having to remove the lens hood or reframe the shot being two advantages. I've also found the reflective technique to be closer to the mark if you've mixed light sources (fill flash, etc.). My 2 cents, anyway.

😄 Thanks for the info John, I used whibal & now tried Expodisc & now I have more things to worry (sorry expodisc). If you tried using DPP 2.0 you don't have to do what you told me to do, it works accordingly & you don't have to do the whibal stuff to relocate the "grey image info" on the images to be white balanced. I wish C1 softwares were like DPP in that aspect so expodisc users can benefit it's purpose of not having to get their whibal & do a shoot near the subject. I shoot furniture exhibit booths so it's more convenient for me not to have an assistant stand & hold my whibal for me so I can see from afar where it should be placed accurately in the mix lightings of the booths (stray lights from spotlights hitting the whibal could be disastrous). Do you have any info as to why C1 does not work with expodisc like DPP does ? Of course I can try to find where my assistant should be with the whibal & shoot the whibal myself close-up & use it's info for the rest of the images...but I find shooting whibals from where the camera is including the whole image to be more accurate as we are able to see the whibals under the mix lights (assuming your assistant follows instruction). I think i will now just use DPP instead when it comes to booth shots since DPP comes with the feature "faithful" which is more accurate in color compared to LE's stock profiles w/c are far off in color compared to reality unless you buy profiles from 3rd party vendors like etc. or drycreek. I normally use available lights on booths so a tripod is sometimes hard to set-up when you are inside the busy booths where people are buying & selling at the same time you are taking a photo of the whole booth. With expodisc you can stand from afar & don't have to see how lights fall on the whibal (eg.)., booths are terribly mix in lighting so it's hard get a dominant light source & we may rely on the expodisc to do the job instead & just process the images direclty without having to go thru whibal info transfer to every image. Although there are situations when a whibal is better to use than the expodisc. I guess both methods would be use in the end depending on light situation & traffic. But I sure feel better if C1 would be able to utilize expodisc potential like Canon's free software DPP. Don't you think so ? 💡0 -
Looks like a case of horses for courses, Bernard. Mixed sources are always a bother, regardless of how you set the WB, and I would imagine, every booth would be different....

Precisely John Kirby, no 2 booths are alike in lighting & traffic. That's a big headache having to bother the booth owners from getting a world record sales as you do your stuff for them. Worst is the booth image needs to finish right away before the show ends cuz almost all the both owners are from out-of-town somewhere far. Having to relocate white balance info would eat-up time obviously. Expodisc eliminates the trouble of doing that & go to the next processing procedure. Though correct usage of using the expodisc must be studied or you end-up with more headache. Whibal is easier to click with C1 & just position it where it should be or you get same trouble with expodisc. 💡0
