Always starts in Viewer mode + slow loading previews

I'm having an issue with C1 Pro 11: After just trying the Viewer mode ONCE, the app now ALWAYS starts in Viewer mode, and I have to manually go into the "Window" menu and select my catalog to get the default interface. This is very annoying.

Also, whenever i select an image and to full-screen editing, it takes 5-10 seconds for C1 Pro to load the preview of a file.
This is with a catalog with 8 images on a fresh installation on Sierra 10.12.6 on a 2017 MBP 15" AMD 560 Pro.

Double-clicking an image doesn't make the app go into editing mode, instead it starts the very annoying "Viewer" mode again...

    Did you save your workspace ? If you didn't, it will always start with its last configuration.

    Yes, I saved my workspace. while not being in Viewer mode. And when I quit C1Pro, I also make sure to NOT be in Viewer mode. Yet, when I start the application again, it ALWAYS starts in Viewer mode - regardless - also when I simply doubleclick an image file (to edit it).
