Wireless tethering with Sony

    In a word... No.

The reality of the situation is simply that wireless data transfer is pretty slow compared to a wired connection, and unless Sony (or Canon, & Nikon for that matter) include wireless communication protocols in their SDK so Capture One can communicate with the camera wirelessly, it won't be possible - and so far the camera manufacturer's haven't been particularly interested in including those hooks in their SDKs for some reason that we can only speculate about.

Not Sure if this is the right forum, But I have just recently had all my equipment stolen, all Canon cameras, lens etc and was debating the option of going with all new sony equipment which I use for video. I have been using capture one since day one with Phase one P30 back and canon for the last 10 years. But I am thinking about changing to all sony for video and photos.
My only concern is being able to shoot tethered with the sony A7rII in studio and making sure my clients are happy and everything works well. I never had any problemas with Canon and images came in relatively fast and everything just works. I cannot find much information on tethering with Micro usb and the sony's not to mention the fact that the A7rII is 48 megapixels , almost double the file size of the 5DMIII. Can someone direct me to the proper information on this subject as I need to invest in all new equipment and was thinking about going with the full sony line up, A7sII for video, A7rII for photos and all the Batis lens line up..
I would really appreciate in help on this topic as I need to make a move really soon...
    Thank you very much

The Sony will work excellent with C1pro in fact it has it's own version with the exact same features (name support for non sony cameras) but at a discount price.

To get a good quality cable to tether with, head over to the tethertools.com and get one.

In any case the Sony will work just as good as the Canon if not better.

Using Sony micro usb for tethering to Capture One works very well except.....

......micro usb is a horrible connector that is pretty unstable in use and very easily damaged, one trip over your tethering cable could easily render the camera output connection as broken.

Speaking from personal experience my A7's micro usb connection works...most of the time. it is now pretty loose due to a snagged cable experience. With a selection of good quality cables it does not tolerate much camera movement without loosing its communication with computer. Thats on a tripod mounted camera with cable taped to tripod.

There are easy solutions to avoid that, a jerk stopper from tether tools that will remove all tension from the port. Also a high quality cable from tether tools in orange will have the cable to stand on out set, and finally tape it with gaffer if you have many people running in the path between computer and camera.

I'v shoot tethered for many years, and not once had i have anyone trip over any cables. Having the A7's where i use the micro HDMI all the time, i know the ports isn't that heavy-duty . But a good cage and cable lock have protected the port and it functions as new after over a year of use.

Which Sony camera are you referring to? I would imagine a micro USB 2.0 with the A7rII is going to be pretty slow compared to a Canon 5Ds with USB 3.0. If your shooting products shot's or very slow pace shooting I bet it works but when your shooting portrait or fashion shoots with a faster pace shoot I do not think it is going to be a fun experience. Again I do not know as I have not tried it but micro USB 2.0 must be pretty slow with anything over 20mp.
