Problem importing catalog A into catalog B

If you are relying on the users guide, you may be having a problem reconciling what it says with what Capture One actually does.

On page 77 of the user's guide, it says, "Imported Capture One Catalogs are duplicated and merged with the current open main or master Catalog. Note, however, when there are source images located within the imported catalog as MANAGED files, these are not imported and remain inside the original Catalog."

Actually, although managed files do remain in the imported catalog, they are also imported into the master catalog, however in my experience, referenced image files remain where they were. I have had problems getting this to work consistently. If you have a problem, you can try my workflow.

I use this workflow to make sure referenced images are located in the folder on a drive where I want them. I create small catalogs with managed files with the intent of importing them into the master catalog. I then import that catalog into the master and then drag the images into folders located where I want them to "live" (folders represent locations on the internal or external drives).

It's unclear if the files in your small catalog are inside the catalog or outside the catalog.

But in either case, one option is to move them to external drive before importing the small catalog. Then they will stay there on import.

You could also do it after import, it may be easier to access the new folder, but it might be more confusing to identify the files to be moved. Depends on your organisation.

Moving the image files (without confusing C1) is done in the "Folder" section of the library tool, by dragging and dropping the image files from where they are (folder or in catalog) to the folder where you want them.
