Orange/grey dot when working with local adj layers
There is a new "orange spot" in v.8 that appears when working with local adjustment layers. It is a grey spot when working with healing or clone layers.
What does is this orange/grey spot?
Is it just something that is placed at random in the mask to show where the mask is or does it have any other function?

Drew,
No, that does not address the question.
The grey or orange spot that I refer to is not the one that indicates a source or target for healing/cloning.
It is a spot (of similar size and shape) that sometimes appears on either simple (classic) adjustment layers or the new types of layers. It has not been there before. Could it be that it just indicates the presence of a layer?0 -
The orange/grey dot is the Selection Point of the mask of a layer (any type of layer). This is new in CO8. It has several purposes and features. Note that you can show/hide the Selection Point from the cursor tool where you also select brush or eraser.
First, the dot is orange for the selected layer, and grey for the not selected layer. By clicking on a grey dot, you automatically select that layer. This is one purpose of the Selection Point.
The place of the dot is where you first started with your brush on that layer. You can move the dot *with* or *without* moving the mask. Just drag and drop the dot to move dot with mask. When drag+Alt key, the dot is move but the mask is not. This is one feature of the Selection Point.
On a clone/healing layer you can place a dot before (and without) making the mask. Use Alt+click. This is the source point.
Clone/healing layers use a source and target point. The target point is where you start brushing the mask. Both source and target point can be moved, together (Alt+drag) or independent from each other.0 -
Paul, thank you for the explanation! (and sorry for the late reply - the forum mail notification does not work for me so I was not aware that there was an answer)
That sounds like a useful tool, especially as the adjustment layers are becoming more and more feature rich. One of the great new things in v.8!
Perhaps this is already explained in the documentation somewhere but I did not find it...
