it is preview sharpening problem,in full res view mode is ok but in preview mode (fit)
in one moment is ok ..focusing.. and after that looks like soft focus0 -
no one with same problem' 0 -
I recognize the behavior you describe. I have not decided whether the final result is adequate or to soft compared to the final output. You could say that I am currently less focused on the issue but it has my attention. đ 0 -
the final output is just ok 0 -
Same problem here. It doesn't affect processed files for me since I disable sharpening anyway in the Output panel, preferring to do it in PS. This overall issue has received comment in another thread where it is consequences are considered, i.e. the delay in the final preview appearance that makes reviewing a host of files uncomfortable. 0 -
I find some new issue, select image in viewer,----loading,image looks ok,----focusing,
soft focus appears, this happened only on horizontal images,on vertical,-----loading,
image looks ok,no focusing appears and image looks still good, Canon 1DsMkII files0 -
same soft focus problem here, on any files (P21 or Canon Mark II) if horizontal images.
Fine on vertical ones and all processed files are ok.0 -

same problem here ......havent gone to print yet so i dont know what the end result looks like, but its very annoying seeing an image load, for a half second its sharp, and then its goes all soft. at this point i go to the focus tab and wack the slider nearly to maximun to get the same sharpness i had for a half second on loading. God knows whats going to happen to the image. So it leaves me guessing on the the output sharpness ( not good at all ), Try explaining that one to a customer who's hanging over your shouder saying why is it soo soft.0 -
Yup, same focus trouble here. 1DsM3 files. A real problem when shooting tethered. Why wasn't this caught in beta testing? Noticed it right away, boom, problem already. 0 -
Same here with 1DsIII
R0 -
Also confirming the above post that the focus problem is with horizontal images only. Vertical ones are sharp. 3.7 does not have this problem. 0 -
I also confirm the problem for 1 Ds MKIII too. I would like to see response from Phase One on this issue. 0 -
Same here with Nikon D3 files except when the browser is at the bottom. Hide the browser or put it on the right then it looks soft.
Come on Phase, you've had years to develop this program and it's looking like amateur hour.
As I recall this was a problem when v4 LE was released as well. Lesson's learned log anyone?0 -
Same problem here with out of focus vert or hor previews with browser on right, except when viewed at 100%. I first noticed it with browser on bottom. Placed it on the right and still had the problem. I did notice that sometimes the preview says Loading and the focus problem is not there, other times it says focusing and the problem is there. I turned browser on and off, right side and bottom and the problem seems to go away until I place the browser on the right again. Some sort of a bug for sure.
Has anyone noticed if it is also in the windows OS? Or are there just worms in these apples?0 -
Hi All,
As a preface, this software is killing me, but I feel like I have to try and give it a chance before I jump ship!
I've found the out-of-focus thing you describe in vertical images too, from my P25+ files, but I've worked out a slightly more satisfactory way of viewing, which is making it feel somewhat more 3.x like.
I'm using the browser as my main screen, (with the thumbnails to the right as I prefer - View>Place Browser Right, this alone took me 20mins to work out!), then choosing Window>Viewer and then shrinking the Viewer window down to act as a focus window on either the same screen or another screen. This then gives you a more accurate idea of sharpness, to show clients for example.
One other thing I found was that if you alter the size of your browser window, it can change the focus of the preview.
hope this may help0 -
I wanted to post some image samples here but I don't see any way to upload or place them in the new PHASEONE user forum ... is it a text-only forum?
Anyway, here is a link to the images on LL forum ...

Hi,
I've the same problem here with images from 40d. I'm using version 4.5 LE on Mac.
I discovered that if you go to sharpening menu and then click on the reset button for sharpening, the image of the preview is sharp as it should, but if you choose a different image and get back the the previous one you get the same behavior again. The viewer doesn't apply the sharpening as it should.
It is certainly a bug that Phase One should correct as fast as it can because as it is C1 is almost useless.0 -
I don't think that it is affecting the OUTPUT image --in that case I would agree that the entire program would be rendered useless-- but if is only on the zoom out view is just an inconvenience but not mission critical... 0 -

Of course it's critical - you can't sort the keepers from the ones for the bin. We're not talking rocket science here just showing an image infocus.0 -

Difficult to tell to be honest. It takes around 10 seconds to render a preview on my windows version so I'm just guessing whether the shots are infocus at the moment.0 -
I just went back to C 1 3.7.9 and compared the same RAW image at about same size in C1 4.5 and it does not look better --the one on 3.7.9-- than 4.5
I wish I could upload images here for you to see... what I will do is to post them in a forum capable of showing images -- can you imagine a top MF forum where you can't find the way to post images!-- ... just a minute0 -
I think I found the way to place images .... http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=9073http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=9072 ... I think I may be a genius đ 0 -
I think that 4.5 probably need more sharpening in the ZOOM OUT view, but I don't think that it is the end of the world different from 3.7.9, as a matter of fact, IQ is a bit better in 4.5 ... I think ... 0 -
When I compare 1DsM3 full screen previews in 3.7.9 to 4.5, I can see a big difference in sharpness in 3.7.9's favor for horizontal images only. Vertical images in 4.5 are quite sharp. As more proof of the problem, there is a brief second when the horizontals in 4.5 are sharp, and then all goes blurry.
Of course, your perception of this problem depends on what sharpening you're using in the first place. If you're not using much sharpening, then you'll hardly notice the problem. But if you like strong sharpening as I do, then the preview looks like the camera is out of focus when it's not. Yes 100% preview is fine, as is the final output, but I want full screen previews to look sharp for tethering.
This is very important if you're using 4.5 tethered with a client looking over your shoulder saying, "it looks a little soft". This is unacceptable. Canon's DPP tethered looks sharp in full screen preview. And so does 4.5 in verticals. I just want 4.5 to do the same with horizontals.
Do we have to wait another year for an update fix to come out? I hope not.0 -

You know the preview quality in full size was one of the issues that were reported months ago again and again by serveral people. So I would not count on any improvement in a further update.

Same problem here with preview of P20 and D3 files in 'fit to screen' mode (no problem when zoomed to 100%). And it doesn't matter where thumbnails are positioned, at the screen's bottom or right hand side. The final output is not affected. Sharpening is usually applied in CS3 in my workflow. C1_4Pro is installed on a 20" iMac with duo-core 2.66Ghz and OSX 10.5.5. Hope this going to be fixed very soon. 0 -
[color=#00FFFF]I have been having the same problem with 4.5 and it is really frustrating when you need to explain to the client that the final image will not look as it does in the preview! I have also realized that if you scale the software or the viewer down that it reaches a point where it looks sharp again. It kind of defeats the object though when you have to use half of a 24"monitor to view the image, the thumbnails and the tools! Is anything going to be done about this? I would go back to 4, which I have been using with 3.7.9, but because I shoot on a 1DS MK3 I need to use the workaround, which is also a pain. I have been waiting for this update since I bought my camera in January - it eventually arrives and now this!! I hope this is only teething problems for 4.5? âšī¸ SK 0 -
I have the 4.1 dmg saved, so I'm switcing back!!!
I am soooo dissapointed on the 4.5 and pro...... âšī¸0
