Hello. As far as I know there has been no change. In any case, I am interested to what program you switched to. LR (which I own) is quite compelling but the biggest drawback is that it's quite as efficient to use as MP.

    Hello.

I tried a lot of dam. I finally chose IDimager. After a testing period, I became the "official french translator" of the product. IDimager offers much more features as any dam I ever tried before, including Expression Media (and Media Pro). For instance, the possibility to edit tags definition, via XMP, allows the user to change any tag which agrees no more with IPTC rules. If MP could do that, Event and/or People tags would be easily corrected. Do you know that, actually, MP can read Event tag from Iptc4xmpExt:Event, but is unable to write it properly ? (In fact, MP uses its own definition !)

Unfortunately, as you (maybe) know, IDimager was suddendly killed by its own creator, to be replaced with Photo Supreme. But Supreme is really poor regarding to IDimager. So, I go on with IDi... I try also (and I've translated in french too) Daminion. This product looks like Expression Media, but (after testing), Daminion is able to recognize events, people, keywords (of course), hierarchical location (photoshop:Country, etc.). As it is a beta version, be sure that many improvments will be realised in the future.

For me, Bridge, LR, ACDSee and others are not dam (even if they certainly do as well as possible what they have to do). The main functions for a dam are : tagging and search, and eventually some other features (like Web templates, printing, etc.)

I left Expression Media with regrets and, as many customers, I was full of hope when Phase One bought it. But can one wait and see eternally ?

Question : what about MP and IPTC ? Is MP still unable to read/write properly some IPTC tags, especially those which depend on IPTC Extension ?

    - Event (Iptc4XmpEx:Event)
    - People on the image (Iptc4XmpExt:PersonInImage)

Sorry if I quote myself, but is there really NO Media Pro authority to clearly answer my question ? Why MP still disagrees with IPTC rules ? Is it really too much difficult to change some tag definitions ?

By the way, include a full XMP editor (like the one in IDImager) would solve the problem, as users could add/edit/change themselves any tag.

I was a faithful user of Expression Media 2 and be sure that I'll come back to Media Pro if this "professional" (?) soft was following IPTC/XMP specifications.

    Hi,

It is probably same issue as I try to figure out right now. I managed photos in Media Pro, with people tags, etc. Now I want to upload photos to G+ and Fcb. And both of then doesn't read any metadata I assigned in Media Pro.
Can anyone, please help me, how can I pass metadata from Media Pro to G+ or Fcb?

    Thanks much

I don't use Media Pro anymore (after testing), but I presume that issues about tags are still present.

For people : in Expression Media/Media Pro, "People" = contact. It is not at all "People seen on image", but people to contact for informations. I never went "inside" Media Pro, but I suppose that the IPTC tag is "Creator's Contact Info" : Iptc4xmpCore:CreatorContactInfo. The tag for "people on image" is : Iptc4xmpExt:PersonInimage. As you can see, the two are completely different.

For events (if they are) : Expression Media/Media Pro can (oddly) read IPTC tag "Event", but cannot write it properly (a special tag is used, which is specific to the softwares).

Unfortunately, there is nothing to do if G+ or Fcb use official IPTC tags... I repeat one more time : Media Pro is not able to read/write some IPTC tags.

    However, when you write :

And both of then doesn't read any metadata I assigned in Media Pro.

it is a little bit curious... Really any ? Are you sure to have written (= synchronized) your files ? Please check it... Open any photo with an external software (like PhotoME ou ExifToolGUI). If your tags are still absent, it probably means that you have to synchronize the MP database with your files (database -> files). But of course, it will not solve the problem with tags mentioned above.

It was my less experience with Media Pro. G+ starts to read metadata after I embed them in image, mainly "caption". However without "GPS (location)" and "people seen in image".
Hopefully, PhaseOne will repair this as soon as possible.

Are you sure ? You have better informations than mine...

Does it mean that Phase one will finally change tags definition (Event, People, etc.) and make them consistent with IPTC rules ?

You're absolutely right, it's difficult to understand why they don't follow IPTC rules.
And honestly, it's even more difficult to understand why Phase One don't make any offcial statement about such a relevant issue!

It meant to be just wish.
Don't understand too, why they don't follow that, when even I'm able to find the rules in few seconds on web.
