Using sessions from C1pro 3 in C1pro 4
Am I the only one that thinks its is extremely weird that all the work you did adjusting images etc etc in version 3 has become totally useless in version 4?
Am I missing something?
I dont know of any other program that isnt backward compatible from its older version to its new whizz bang version.
In EVERY single program I have ever used or seen you can use older version in the new updated version.
Is this going to be fixed or does it mean that all the jobs we shot in version 3 have to be used in version 3 and all the new jobs shot in version 4 have to be used in version 4...
seems pretty crazy to me... or as I say, am I just missing something?

You can transfer CO4 settings between PC and Mac.0 -

Roine,
I copied from a WinXP system a folder with raw files and the Capture One subfolder with settings and cache files, to a folder on my Mac drive. Next, I opened the folder with CO4.x on the Mac. Everything, all raws with all corrections were instantly available and ready for processing or other adjustments.
What did you mean by "All COS files where listed in an error box"?
Edit: you probably referred to the Events window of CO4.x? What was the error message?
Edit: I transferred from Mac to Win more often with the same positive results.0 -
Hello
In 3.5.2 on the mac and a 3.5.1 on the PC it works.
Will test again with 4.0 files, I dont have them here just now.
If You get som errors C1 4 shows a dialog that lists all files, in that dialog it listed my cos files.0 -
Cross platform compatibility seems minor compared to the fact that we cannot use 3.sessions in 4.whatever.
At the studio where i work, this pretty much means 4 is a beautiful worthless toy.
I hate to have to say that, but we need to be guaranteed consistency, reliability and backwards compatiblity. Using 4 at this point would totally break our time tested workflow. I can only 'play' with it, or make a break with 6 years of H20 captures.
I'm sure it will be addressed, but still...it seems silly.0 -
Hi
I have the same problem. The corresponding work of 4 Tb Images within C1Pro 3.7 (selecting, processing recipes, resize ....) has to be dumped? It cannot be used in C1Pro 4.5? Serious?
Any professional program (InDesign, Filemaker...) offers a integration of old version files to be used with the new software release.
Since 1 year I had to switch to aperture because with Leo and Canon thetered shooting was not possible. Only for my P45 back I have to use C1Pro. I steped back to 3.7 after so many crashes and the .session issue.
Are we loosing a reliable software provider?
Beta testing on the job is not very healty - especially with a client besides you.

I agree. A Company like Phase One, that releases Software that cannot work with old Versions of their own Software is more than ridiculous.
I can't name any big Software that has done the same. Old Files could always be opened. Image MS Office not beeing able to read old word files from the previous Version ...
I seriously hope Phase One will fix this asap.0 -
This won't happen. 3.7 appears incompatible with 4.5 because Capture One no longer uses the same file formats. The .plist file format that Apple uses as its main preference file format is no longer used - 4.5 has its own file formats (either .cos or .cop - i'm not sure which for prefs). .sessions are now .col45. The whole architecture of a session appears to be different. I wonder why this is why its proving so buggy on my system. I'd be interested to know the reasoning for creating these file formats rather than using one used by the operating system. I suppose this is to allow people to use on both windows and mac - seems like bizaree reason. anyone from phase care to enlighten us? 0 -
Does anyone have a way of converting the old plist files to cos? 0 -
The switch to .cos files came so that settings would be readable cross platform for both windows and mac. 0 -

Was 4.x incompatibility with previous versions know to those who upgraded? This seems like a steep price to pay for cross platform compatibility. I guess I would not put "cross platform" down as a critical path.0 -

I already charged off quiet some settings file from the earlier 3.x versions.
How will the compatibility be handled in future versions?
At present my settings files are automatically saved in a subdirectory structure with a folder named "settings45" (I use version 4.5.1). Is that going to change also?
Why not store settings within the same folder as the RAW files - as most other RAW processing software does?
Thanks in advanvce for every helpful answer.
