    Hi,

I have about 20,000 pictures and it works quite well, until now.
When I have some trouble (more pictures), I'll think about working with sessions. The only problem is that with sessions you can't find a specific image, using filters and requests, except within the session. If you are stuck with this, you must use a third party catalog software, such as Photo Mechanics or Media Pro SE.

A lot depends on the hardware. I have over 57,000 images in my catalog. On a 10core iMac Pro with 64 GB RAM and 2TB SSD, it loads in 25 sec. Time to view all images is less than 25 sec, the first time after loading and a few seconds, thereafter. I have no issues with the speed of adjustments. With my 2008 Mac Pro and 2008 Macbook Pro, things are much slower. The mac Book Pro takes over 4 min to load the same catalog and the Mac Pro takes 65 sec. Initially loading all images is too long to attempt on the MacBook Pro and about 4 min on the Mac Pro.

I've got ~50k images and don't have problems with either performance or stability. I've also still got Aperture running (to preserve former edits) and while A3 launches faster than C1, it takes Aperture FAR FAR longer to quit, and significantly longer to draw previews of images from my 5DIV, 7DII, and especially the 5DsR (A3's basically unusable for those large files).

Vs C1, which on my quad-core 2012 MP with 32GB of RAM, running Sierra, takes a minute or so to launch, and then works very smoothly for most things (as has been pointed out in this forum, there are issues with brushes and some other things in the current version).

I haven't encountered stability with any of my machines. If you're having problems, consider filing a support case.

Thanks to anybody for replying and giving me some ideas - I'm on the latest MacBook Pro 16GB RAM, 3.1 GHz - what surprises me the most is that Aperture, a software that's several years old seems to be more stable, faster than the latest version of C1 - I was able to import all my yearly Aperture libraries into C1 - however while creating the previews I guess I get the beachball for hours or a message telling me that the system ran out of resources or trying to let it run over night, the computer shut down all together and I have to turn it on again in the morning.

I also have kept my Aperture library and it is blazingly fast on my iMac Pro. I would bet that the reason it runs in some respects faster than C1P is because it was designed specifically by Apple for Mac, its structure is designed to work on computers of its time that were not as robust as newer ones, and C1P simply is more of a resource hog. The only way around this is to increase resources (RAM, CPU, graphics processor, storage) or break up the catalog into smaller chunks.

more and more I get the impression that for me it is basically useless - another unsuccessful attempt and another message telling me that I'm running out of application resources

Have you tried contacting Phase One Technical Support using a Support Case?

They should be able to help you identify what is happening using the Log files as a source of information.
