Hot keys not working for me

This ios probably a dumb question but I'm new to the editing side of Capture One. I have V10.0.1 on a new Macbook Pro and I can't seem to get hot keys to work. So when using the brush and I try and switch to erase with Alt or e I get the failure 'dong'. The little drop down options by the tools in the toolbar also don't work. I'm sure I just have a setting wrong somehwere! I've searched everywhere but cant find anyone else with the same problem. Can anyone help?

  If i had this problem, i would download the latest version 10.0.2 so you have a fresh install and the latest bug fixes, and see if that solves the problem.

  Thanks for the idea. I've done that but still no avail. I don't think it's a bug but more like I have a setting incorrect somewhere. It's driving me mad!

  Turns out theres just no shortcuts set up! If some should be there by default or not I don't know but for some reason I had none. Very weird. All's well that ends well!

  No shortcuts at all suggests an installation problem or maybe something to do with permissions somewhere.
  
  You should have a default set and then your own set for any alternatives you set up for your purposes.
