Corrupted Capture One settings for a NEF file?
hi all
I've come across a problem with two different NEF files that have previously opened fine in Capture One Pro but are now displaying as if corrupted - see one example at:
http://www.geoffdore1.com/temp/captureone.htm
Both images show fine in Photoshop CS, in which one was rotated and some adjustments made (but cancelled/not saved) which, as far as I am aware is the only change made to it in recent weeks - the only other common factor for both files is they have both been developed into tiffs, but other files also developed are fine
It would appear to be a problem with the raw rendering data attached to the file rather than the actual file itself - my two backup copies on hard drive also display incorrectly in Capture One, both of which were made before looking at the file in Photoshop
Seems to be just two files - wonder of anyone else has come across this or can shed some light one what is happening
Is there any way of saving raw files without such rendering data attached?
TIA

This is a known issue with Capture One 3.6 which will be fixed.
The file has previously been opend in Nikon software and changes has been maid.
The Nikon software stores the information in the NEF file, which is in our point of view is a bad way of handle RAW files when this can cuase corruption and the RAW is no longer a negative.
You can go in to the Nikon software, reset all the sliders and Capture One will read the file fine.0 -

Thanks for reply ULf - I only have Nikon Picture Project installed and used it basically for viewing rather than making changes to any image - this image has had no changes saved - ditto in Photoshop CS - ACR sliders were adjusted, but reset and then ACR cancelled
There do seem to be a number of incompatibility issues with Nikon software so I no longer use it.... and am modifying workflow to ensure that at least somewhere I have some saved raw NEFs that have been untouched since being downloaded from camera.....
Am in touch with one of your colleagues who is looking into this problem

I suggest you atleast try downloading Nikon View, open this specific RAW file.
And do a reset in all tabs, and then try to open the image again in Capture One.0
