adding lens to lens profile

I use lenses that are not in the manufacturers profile for example Sony Sonnar T 55 FE 1.8 mm and my Canon EF lenses I use with meatiness adapter

    Unfortunately, you can not add lens profiles yourself to the lens profile database in CO8. You can however, as a workaround, create presets.

    I just discovered (to my horror) that my newly purchased SEL35F18 is not available in the lens profile.

    It shows up as "Manufacturer Profile" and it does seems some correct is done because there are changes when I uncheck "Hide Distorted Area". What does "Manufacturer Profile" actually means?

    I really hate to evaluate Lightroom or DXO because I love the colors and simplicity of Capture One!

    My understanding is that the Manufacturer Profile setting in the software derives its information from data that the manufacturer did put into the raw file. This information is used by Capture One to apply a correction.
    Other lens profiles are based on data that Phase One derived from their own measurements with an actual camera, lens in a testing setup.

    The C1 profiles are available to anyone who wishes to use them. Useful if you are using the lens on a camera that does not provide its own lens adjustment data.

    So far as I can tell the Manufacturer information is only available if the image has been shot with a compatible combination of camera and lens.

    I would guess that the answer to your question depends on whether you think Sony are any good at designing and building compatible bodies and lenses or whether other testers may be able to deliver improved results.

    Maybe compare them, see if there are any differences that are visible and choose from there? You should be able to change the default lens adjustment model to be applied to your images should you choose to do so.
