Can't use Canon body... busy. Help!
I am brand new to capture one and having a couple workflow issues that I can't seem to figure out and hoping someone can help me out.
I am a product/commercial photographer shooting tethered with a Canon 5DS R and previously shot with EOS utilities tethered or Lightroom. So far I really like the interface and options of capture one but have a few issues that are problematic and a potential deal breaker on switching. Hopefully its something simple that I just overlooked.
While being tethered shooting in my studio with strobes, I do like to use my camera viewfinder to frame shots and choose my focus points however, my camera body says that it is busy and no on camera functions are available. I am usually shooting f16-f20 so using live view is useless unless I switch my iso and aperture so that there is enough light in live view, then switch those settings back to take the shot.
So, is there a way to still use my camera functions on the actual body while using capture one or am I limited to only using the software to control it?
Is there any sort of simple method to use live view for focus and framing without having to change my exposure settings to get enough light in live view and then switch back for strobes.
When I am tethered and turn on my camera, EOS utilities auto starts every time, can I turn that off? I left the EOS app open and could still shoot with capture one using it's shutter in the app, I can also control my functions through the body and the photo would be taken but then would not load into capture one session. I suppose its on my card but not transferred to my Mac.
I am probably missing a preference or option but couldn't find it. How do you guys shoot with capture one tethered?

There should be setting in your camera to disable exposure emulation in live view. But I'm not sure. I own a Canon, but not a 5DS R.

Autostarting apps when connecting cameras, scanners, etc., is controlled by 'Image Capture'. Open this app, attach your camera, and change the autostart option to 'No Application'. It's hidden in the bottom left corner.[quote="NNN636166418873236153" wrote:

You only need to pause CO's live view.[quote="NNN636166418873236153" wrote:

Never use 2 conflicting tools at the same time to control the camera. They don't negotiate about it. They'll both claim ownership over the camera.[quote="NNN636166418873236153" wrote:

See my 1st post.

Hi Hans,
Thanks for your replyAutostarting apps when connecting cameras, scanners, etc., is controlled by 'Image Capture'. Open this app, attach your camera, and change the autostart option to 'No Application'. It's hidden in the bottom left corner.
Image capture is set for no application with that body, will have to keep digging around for that one?You only need to pause CO's live view.
I was not actually shooting in live view because its completely black unless I chance exposure settings. Just checked your 1st post on turning off exposure simulation... brilliant. completely overlooked that option. I am also not getting the busy message in my camera when live view is off, I wonder if the pop window for live view was still open but minimizes or hidden behind another window.
thanks again.0 -
argh, eos utilities had reopened in the background which then took the body off the busy mode. once i quit eos utilities, i no longer could operate the camera body while tethered regardless if live view was on or not.
So I disbled exposure simulation like you said, however, i cannot focus while in live view. There is a focus meter that looks like is the tool for focusing but when i click it, it says that it is does not support focus metering for this camera. the whole live view is completely out of focus as well. Clicking the AF button in the camera focus pane doesn't work in live view either. it does work when using shutter in session window though.1 -
I am having this very same issue with my 5DS!
How did you go with resolving this?-1
