Not .. for C1 Catalog user !
Attention !
this is a NOT from me for how works with Catalogs in C1,
usually i use C1 and Media-Pro on my Mac works and only with one main Catalog, but i decide now to tray some beta, versions vendor Apps to my Workflow , such like
Photo Mechanic, Affinity Photo, Acdesee pro 8, and a Gimini „ for double file finder “
after using these Apps with C1 8 Catalog and bay using the open With function inside C1 8, i found that C1 stoppt to works well as bevor. and getting continually Problems
i found back that the Library Folder "C1 Catalog" is damaged and it ist opened " read / write " to all authors Apps on the Mac, also i found that thees Apps can erase folders inside the c1 library " Catalog" wich
makes it don’t really works good, specially when i triad to use GIMINI to look inside C1 catalog for Double files „DONT TRAY THIS IDEA PLEACE !
now i am happy to got my catalog thank the Time-Machine backe agin.
So my bee this experiment explain way some users having problem in C1 hear.

When are you gonna accept that you are using it incorrectly?
There is absolutely no reason to use a third party app to open a catalog.
You can use any third party app to view and store your photos, however, to edit photos from a third party app in C1, you HAVE TO USE SESSIONS.
The best I have found for this so far is Photo Supreme. However it will only work if you use sessions. That being said, Photo Supreme will reflect edits made in Capture One.
I do believe that Photo Supreme may make you happy.0 -
I am using Affinity Photo, too. And I am using PS, Hugin, LuminanceHDR, and others, sometimes still Gimp. No problems ever. But Catalogs are catalogs, and sessions are sessions. 'Export Original', 'Export Variant', 'Open with' and 'Edit with' work fine. Or I just use my referenced(!) RAW.
It sounds weird to use a tool like Gemini the duplicate finder on a file and folder structure that is completely linked into a catalog database. Messing around with something like this means asking for trouble. And I know what I am talking about, because in the early days of CO catalogs I did some scripting to clean up catalog contents (leftovers from deleted images like settings, previews, ...).

yes thanks,,,, your right ! this workflow in C1 works only with sessions,
wich is may main problem , i spend 2 days for converting my c1 Catalog to session and triad it in C1 agin
i got a very bad results " performance and crash" this means NOT that C1 don't works good with Session , but
as far i now that Phase One recommend for a big Photo library the Catalog method use ,
keep waisting time to bay authors Third Party Apps adding to C1 don't makes since
i ask kindly to Phase one to makes ( Capture One + Media Pro ) a stronger package for Profi Photographer 😄
Thanks !0 -
Export Original', 'Export Variant', 'Open with' and 'Edit with' work fine.
this is the problem !
wail using OPEN with or Edit with you let third party Apps linking inside your catalog 😁0 -
'Open with' opens the original raw file in the desired program. Nothing is to be returned into the catalog structure by the user. After retouching, it must be saved outside the catalog.
'Edit with' allows to return the retouched image. It must overwrite the original file, therefore has to be of the same type, and must, of course, be in saved by the user in a CO compatible format.
If done correctly, nothing gets messed up. Works for me. 😁
