making a local area more soft
Hello,
Is it possible to soften an area of an image with an adjustment layer?
I was sure that I did that before but now I do not find the possibility.
Thanks for help,
Joachim

Use the clarity tool and set negative values to either or both sliders.
There may also be some potential using noise reduction depending on the effect you can achieve.
One other alternative might be to remove all sharpening from the image and then selectively apply some using a layer. (Or, possibly better if the selection to soften is small, mask the area to soften and SHARPEN it in the layer. The invert the layer selection.)
If you are seeking to soften skin there are some specific features in Colour Management that might help.

Thanx for help. The clarity tool was ok. I wanted to soften a little bit the background of an image. 0 -
Hi,
thx for the idea. I can't get C1P to do a local clarity adjustment on a layer. Am i just doing something wrong, or is this just not yet possible.
Would be nice to have local adjustments for clarity and sharpness don't you think?0 -
Hi, you doing something wrong in C1 8 there is a definetely version of Clarity and Sharpening tools, that work nicely for selected layer only.
You can turn that on for your Clarity tool by checking Adjust Selected Layer of Clarity and Sharpening tools, and magic happens, and you will see small brush appear close to Tool tab indicating that this tool applies settings ONLY to selected layer.
BTW all tools on Local Adjustments tool are already configured that way.

T1jsp:
To get the adjustments work, including clarity, a 2-step-action is needed: 1) creating a layer (adjustment); and 2) drawing a mask over the area where you want to do an adjustment.
For controlling the change I stay on the Adjustment Layer toolset and turn Background active. Then I switch on and off the layer whose effect I want to control (checkbox in front of the corresponding layer).0
