This was a comment from a Canon 10D group member after attending a Capture 1 seminar. This seminar is apparently going around the US at this time. This photographer shoots dogs shows and is very accomplished at her craft. She uses all Canon gear and a MS Windows based workstation for photoshop. She is considering Capture 1 Pro because of the volumn of work that she does.

According to her, "The seminar man told us that most of what he was going to show was was unfortunatley not available for Window users, only MAC. And everytime he showed us something different a lady in the front row would ask if Windows could use it and he would say "no". She did not ask about the aligning procedure...at that point I just felt it wasn't probably for for us Window users. Good to know I can use it. Thanks."

When I attended a seminar presented by Ed Pierce, he told us that the Capture 1 products were virtually identical between the Mac and Win platforms. If it is truly different, I'd like to know. If this person at the seminar is a Phase One employee, he/she had better get some training or should find a new job.

I'd be very disappointed if this difference between platforms is true.

    Lee,

It is no secret that the Mac and Windows platforms are NOT equal.
Since there are features and functions that are specific to each,
We've heard complaints from both sides of the 'fence'
Because PRO is cross-platform, some studios have Capture One installed on one of each to have all the capabilities.

The Mac version was completely re-written a few years ago.
What this enabled was the ability to fix Bugs and to add Feature Requests very efficiently.
For version 4.0, which is due 4th Q of this year, the Windows version will be completely rewritten.
As much as possible, Developers are seeking to have both platforms equal in all features and functionality.

The RoadShow showcases our newest P-series Digital Backs. Since the vast majority of our Digital Back owners use the Mac platform, this is what is demonstrated by our Speaker.
The RoadShow is very enlightening if you get a chance to see it, the Schedule is posted at the web site.

As far as the Color Editor is concerned, this Tool IS EQUAL on both Mac and Windows programs.
The capability of controlling specific colors within an image is possible using the Color Editor tool of PRO and then saving this Profile.

    Cheers,
    k c

The person on the Canon 10D group responded:

"As to the color editor...yes that is what I was talking about...and the man giving the seminar told was it was NOT for Windows yet only MAC. So for the fun of it I tried using it and although I can slide the indicators back and forth and such it will not effect the image because I am using Windows. From what the guy at the seminar said my conclusion was that when Windows comes out with their newest version next year???? that is when the stuff that Mac can use we will beable to use in the program. I don't remember all the technical stuff and the names but I believe that C1 is built on a Unix platform? Is that correct anyone? And that MAC is also similar, but Windows is not...according to this guy the next generation of Windows will have the Unix platform in it... Allan...help me out here...unless you were sleeping during that part. :0)"

I know that MAC OSX is a Unix environment. I very seriously doubt that WIN will be switching to a UNIX basis any time soon.

Anyway, why doesn't the color editor work for her???

    Lee,

Color Editor is a Feature of PRO only and again, it is Equal on Mac and Windows.
You can even select an area as little as the lipstick of a Model and brighten it up to your liking.
On Windows, it will even show a split-window of Before Vs. After color adjustments which is not shown on the Mac version.
I'm quite certain that the presenter was demonstrating the STYLES tool and its capabilities which indeed is a MAC Only feature.
Nonetheless, we will contact him to be sure he is more thorough in his explanation and demo.

    Sincerely,
    k c
