Lost my images, but still have the previews: how to recover?
Dear people on the forum,
I just found out that quite while ago I have accidentally removed images that shouldn't be. ☹️ Quite sad about that, but have to live with my own stupidity.
I do, however, still have the previews of the images in a Capture One catalog as *.cop files, so not all is lost (yet)! Looking at the contents these files seem to be JPEGs, but changing the extension does not give a usable result. Anyone knows how to transform these into proper JPEGs (or whatever image format)? Help would be very much appreciated. Even knowledge about the cop format would be useful, as I can do some programming myself.
Kind regards,
Jeroen

Thanks Daffy, that is an interesting post!
I am, however, not looking for a solution that uses screenshots, as that would be a real nuisance for the hundreds of pictures I have. I will do it, but only as a last resort. Fortunately, I already can see the previews (I did not make that clear) and hence can 'export' using screenshots. I am looking for an easier and less time-consuming and error-prone approach.

That was clear - you want to recover as much information (i.e. detail) with as little manual effort possible. Well, that's what I would want 😉
One of the key values of that stack* posting is, though, what the original poster tried _and what failed_.0 -
I believe that if you go to File > Export > Variants > and choose JPEG Quickproof as the format, it will output a JPG file based on the preview without having to refer to the original raw. (Never tried it, but it can do no harm to try!)

Thanks for the tip, Ian! Unfortunately this fails with the detailed message
Error processing Image xxxxxx.ARW
Exception Object reference not set to an instance of an object. in DestinationProcessor.GetImage(). Stack Trace = at P1.C1.Components.DestinationProcessing.DevelopProcessor.GetImage(DeveloperTask task, an progressCallback, BatchErrorMessage errorMsg, Boolean preloadInsteadOfProcessing, Boolean assumeProxyOK)
So perhaps it should work, but it doesn't.0 -

What happens if you put a dummy .ARW in place where it is expected?0 -
Have you asked Support how you could save the previews as usable JPG files?

Great suggestion! I have contacted Support, and they saved the previews of my images. Actually they said it should be possible the way you have suggested before, but apparently that doesn't work on Window, while it does so on Mac. The good news is that the images have been saved!
Thanks to y'all!0
