session creates folders all around disk
If I am in a session an use the System Folders tree browser on the left in Co9, whenever I click on a folder where there are images, Co9 creates a folder in that directory "CaptureOne" and subfolders Cache and Settings90.
Now not a big deal but why does Co9 do this all around my drive instead of storing this in some system file at one place?

This is standard behaviour for sessions where the cache and settings are stored locally with images for that directory.
If you prefer a centralised cache, then try using the "Catalog" concept.0 -
That is the difference between a session and catalog.
Sessions everything is stored with the images, as you note in a directory called "CaptureOne". You can just browse to a directory of images and start working.
Catalogs store everything in the Catalog directory. Now you can use either managed (where the images are copied into the Catalog directory) or Managed where the images are stored some place else. All files you want to work on need to be imported into the catalog before they can be worked on.
Some people prefer Sessions as everything is stored with the images, and if the image directory is moved, the adjustments follow along.

When using sessions, CO stores previews and adjustments along with the images in the subfolders you found. These settings are available in every new session you create when you browser this image folder again.
If you want to store the information in a central place, you have to use a catalog and import your images (referenced or embedded) into the catalog database. All previews and adjustments will be stored in that catalog database and are only available within that catalog.
Both methods have advantages and disadvantages. It's up to you to choose, Try both, and go for the one that suits your way of working.

yes but I already have a folder in a specific location that is my session folder. Now if I somehow want to import images from a totally different place on my drive or memory card over to that session folder I can understand that co9 creates a previewfolder and settings and all kinds of stuff it needs to maintain function of that session folder that I want to work inside. Now what I dont understand is why the program need to create the settings90-folder and cache-folder in this totally different source location where the original image happened to be just because it was the location where I copied the images from. I am obviously not going to edit that image if it was on a memory card for example, I am only going to copy it from that location.
I tried to browse (from inside co9) to a memory card for example, and imported images from that memory card into the capture subfolder of my session folder. So now I am ready to work on my copied image inside the session folder on my drive and make all kinds of edits and then perhaps send that whole folder to someone else if they want to make further edits. Ok great! But still I have the folder that I totally dont need at all, created on the memory card just because it was the place where I copied the original images from. You see my point?
By the way the edit functions of CaptureOne is awesome, it is just these small issues I dont understand..0 -
OK. Some detail in here that wasn't there in the initial post. 😊 [quote="Mike900" wrote:

Browsing a folder makes CO create previews, and, in a session, makes CO create that additional folder.
CO stores the adjustments in the folder you are working in. So, if you are working in your local session folder, it will store the previews and adjustments in the subfolder of your local session folder. If you work on the card's folder, it will store the previews and adjustments in the subfolder of your card's folder. They will not be in sync.
You will need to delete the new folder on your card manually, from finder, or from camera menu. I am usually not using CO to copy my images from card to disk, but when I do, the import dialog does not create an additional folder on my card.

thanks!
I just have to stick to the import option then I guess. 😄
And if you want to delete the main folder for the session you do that in Finder?
Why can I not just easily access all my sessions I ever created from some kind of session drop down? I mean that is tied to the actual sessions I have made and not just a "recently opened" or the drop down list under LIbrary? I mean I can easily have 60 sessions and if I mistakenly press "clear menu" I have to open all 60 again to have them in a list inside co9.
Yes I have them in finder and I can double click that folder and open the .cosessiondb file inside but it would just seem quicker to have all these program-specific session files listed in the application since I cant open them with any other application 😊
(PhaseOne: seriously, make these kind of things easy to figure out inside the program and then you have a lightroom killer that will make millions of users come to you)0 -
Yes, deleting sessions and catalogs is with Finder.
For that list of all sessions, the way to go is to create a support case on the PO tech support website. Use 'Feature Request' as title, and explain what you would like to have.
(BTW, the reasons why CO can't kill LR are keywording / DAM performance and tiff / jpeg colors. But I am using it, because for me it was and is by far the best in user interface and image quality.)

awesome, thanks for the help.
The image quality for me is more important since I sort my images in finder anyway so I can access them from other programs.
Since you are using Co9, do you know any way to make sharpening adjustments on one image and that I can view the results of in a specific resized resolution? I had no problem with this in lightroom or photoshop or even OSX preview app but it seems sharpening is not showing up much sometimes if I on export resize it to a much smaller image than the raw file.
I know I an re-sharpen it outside of Co9 but if I could do it well and really see the effect on target resolution it would be awesome.0
