Workflow questions - filtering particularly
Long story short... I do post-processing for a living, mainly weddings, mainly using Lightroom. A specific customer has requested C1, and who am I to argue? So I'm trying to fit my usual workflow, at least vaguely, to C1 Pro, but there are certain parts of the puzzle that I'm missing, and I'm looking for workarounds or solutions.
My usual workflow:
All images have 0 stars.
View all 0 rated images in LR. Sort by Capture Time.
Select working images (i.e. all outside images) and add to Quick Collection for work.
Finish processing those images, and mark as 5 stars to mark as 'done'.
Filter on main folder is set to 0 stars, so I only see the unprocessed images.
Keep adding images to Quick Collection to work on one set at a time by lighting (i.e. inside church, speeches, etc) and marking as 5 stars as completed, eventually working down to no images showing in the main folder.
So the question - is there any way to filter by star rating, so some images are hidden? Or are albums or favourites a good bet for this kind of situation?
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated, as I'd like to offer C1 as an option for other customers too, but it's dependant on workflow.

I am not an expert in LR, but here is my 2c.
well... why don't you use LR as a DAM and call C1 to do an actual raw conversion... now LR will allow you to call an external editor - but that is not what you want, you want to work with the raw file, so instead of calling C1 directly (because in this case LR will pass it .TIFF or .PSD or whatever) call a special program that will replace the extension in the passed filename with the extension of your raw files and then call C1 from that program w/ the right filename (it will be a raw file)... this is like 10 minutes work for any software developer (befriend one - it pays) to write such a program for you... and you are all set - LR work as a DAM, C1 works as a raw converter (be sure to use v4.7 though and keep all your
raw files outside of LR database).0 -
Thanks for your thoughts Dee. Lightroom isn't the issue - and I know LR so well I wrote a book on it, so mixing the 2 wouldn't be an issue.
For this situation though, I don't need any kind of DAM - I just need an easy way of grouping images to process batches of similar images together, and an easy way to mark them as 'done' and hide them from view. I assumed that C1 would have that kind of basic functionality?
That said, throwing LR into the mix could maybe work - to sort the images into folders of lighting conditions and then look at those in C1.0 -

my point was to offer you a way to keep your workflow as you like it and used to it in LR... invoking C1 only to actually edit the image (do the raw conversion) once it is (image) selected for this in LR... and keep all sorting, filtering and rating the way you do now... just my 2c.0 -

Currently, there is no way to hide some images from a folder (other than doing uncool things such as altering the extension of the image which I wouldn't recommend). But you can sort by rating, image name (which usually sorts it by capture time as well) etc and add to favorites (whole folders) and albums (individual images from one or more folders).
Perhaps you should create a session for your job, rate them and then add the images you wanted to see/work with, to an album, effectively leaving out those images you want to hide when you view that album? Hope that made sense.0 -

Albums is the way to go.
Rate all your images into your lighting/location categories using either stars (I dislike) or by colour rating (my preference).
Create albums for each of your desired categories and then using the select by colour range command, drag and drop these images into the designated album.
Works just like the quickview folder in Lightroom but if I'm not mistaken Lightroom only allow one quickview folder.
I use this method very successfully.0
