New iMac 27 2017 with Radeon Pro 580 8 GB slow brushes

Hi,

I just bought a new imac 2017 with the best GPU available and capture one is really slow and laggy. Just found out that local adjjustment brushes work much smoother with GPU acceleration turned off but other things get slower... Sometimes the C1 freezes for like 30 seconds...

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017), 3,8 GHz Intel Core i5, 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4, Radeon Pro 580 8192 MB

any suggestions? The c1 was much faster on my old hackintosh but it was only 1920x1200...

I edit thousands of 30mpx raw files and often it takes like two seconds to load image when I'm sorting them.

    First thing first, what is the size of your previews, you need to set them for 5120px.

    I have the previous edition iMac with max specs and 32 GB ram and mine is laggy as well. For some reason CO doesn't like iMacs, they say iMacs GPU is not enough to run CO on a 5K screen

    Thanks for the reply. I have turned of GPU acceleration for display and changed the preview to 5120 and regenerated the previews. Not it's a bit better but everytime I make an adjustment the image gets like 1 stop overexposed and then jumps back to normal exposure. It makes real time adjusting exposure or hdr sliders impossible. I have to release the slider to jump back to the set exposure ☹️

    For that I'd suggest you fill a support ticket. I have similar problem with some images "flashes" but found out that those images with spot tool have been used having problems.. Normal images don't have the problem

    I'm having trouble accepting that. I would understand trouble in the case of the 2015 one with 2GB of RAM (not enough framebuffer to hold 1 second of variable content on display).

    Yeah, that currently is normal behaviour on any platform from what I see. Exacerbated exponentially when the screen/window size goes above 2K (it's not directly related to the preview size).

    On another thread, you can see CO's comment about iMac 5K GPU. On my tickets i have submitted, the results of the problems were due to the lack of power that my GPU has had as it is a mobile GPU and barely has enlugh power to drive OpenCL.

    I am having the same issue with the slow brush, however everything else is fast with my base 2017 iMac. I've turned off hardware acceleration for the display and left it on for processing.

    On my MacBook retina 12, I had freezes and other issues, but was able to resolve it by doing a FULL delete and re-install. On the PhaseOne website, there is a page on how to do a full delete rather than just dragging the app to the trash bin. That full delete and re-install cured all my hangs, beach balls and crashes.

    How do you find the general performance of the software on MacBook Retina 12?

    It's actually pretty good. I recently had a trip to Mexico with family and did basic edits on the images every night. I didn't feel that the computer slowed me down much. It works especially well with the M10 DNG files, but even the Fuji RAF files were processed quickly enough.

    The only thing I'd recommend doing is using an external Samsung T5 USBC drive for the sessions and ensure you have 16GB of RAM. The keyboard on the 2017 is a HUGE improvement over the mushy keys of my previous 2015 model. That alone is worth the upgrade.

    Ironically, with display opencl off, the brushes are butter smooth and more responsive than my 2017 iMac!
