Bearing in mind that whenever I have investigated TIFF system usage in the past the memory requirement was many times the file size and whatever you are doing with the image is going to have a lot of data to process I think you may be expecting quite a lot from an application that is primarily intended to produce high quality RAW file interpretation from files that are somewhat smaller to start with.

You made a valid point which I have failed to look into from my side. It never occurred to me that my RAM would be getting bled dry by loading a large image which could have had a detrimental effect on performance. However, from my experience in handling the same NEF & TIFF files in Lightroom there is no performance hit.

I use C1 has an asset management tool as well on a rather rudimentary level therefore it should at least allow me to navigate to my folder of TIFF within my catalog in the blink of an eye rather than having to wait 20 seconds plus for the thumbnails to load or navigate across thumbnails or refresh.

I love C1 for it's ability to make raw refinements before I start compositing work in photoshop.

I know this thread is stale but it's timely for me...

I have many images that I'd like to manage and do first pass editing on in C1d. Then most go through a phase with multiple layers in PS. Once the TIFFs have some size and layers, C1 just chokes on any machine we put it on. This would mean that we'd then need to fine yet another asset management interface to use to edit and organize our TIFFs. Although C1 is the best RAW converter I've found, the inability to allow us to even touch large TIFF files without hanging renders it almost useless UNLESS...

...there's a magic workflow jelly that we can spread on this problem to allow us to use C1 and edit and manage our TIFFs.

Any insight regarding workflow would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Phase One does have Media Manager which I havent used but I have tried a new methodology recently as a manner to get around this slow procedure.

My images are stored on a day basis i.e 2016-12-15 within this folder I create a sub folder called "Edited'.
Within "Edited" resides all my photoshop tiff files with composited images.

I do all my RAW adjustments in C1 and make a TIFF file and ensure this file appears in the "Edited" folder.

Then I use Lightroom as a viewer to view these TIFF files and to continue working in photoshop.

Once I am finished with my edits, I just access these again in C1 and let it export while I go make coffee.

If I dont hear anything from Phase One by end of Jan then I am moving back to Lightroom till new update to C1 is provided that addresses this issue.

In the interim you can raise a support case. The more support cases are raised for this problem the more chances this problem can me fixed. I dont think this is a new problem because it was in all version of 9.X.X as well. Perhaps Phase One are just to lazy to fix it.

Thank you for that. It's very helpful. I'm trying something very similar to tide me over.

I opened another thread asking about performance with multi-layer TIFF files and workflow in the workflow section. Got no responses so I opened a ticket with Phase One support. They got back with me today:

    ----Begin----
Hello Clint, We are working to fix this delay in CO. It is an known issue. Bear in mind layered tiffs and tiffs saved with alpha channels are meant for viewing in CO only. Reprocessing them will ignore the layer and/or channel. But with that said the viewing should be possible. We are working on this issue.

    Best Regards,
    Phase One Support

    ---- I replied ----
Understood. I have no need or intent to edit multi-layered TIFFs in CO. Even just trying to scroll past them in a catalog brings the system to a halt at times when CO tries to render. The "Focusing viewer..." circle just goes and goes and...

So, for now I'll just squirrel them away into another directory after they are exported. Somewhere CO can't try to include them. Looking forward to the magical update that will make my asset management scene almost perfect. I just want to be able to use "Edit With..." and not re-enter CO to find the catalog unusable.

Thanks for your quick reply and have a Happy New Year!
    ---- End ----

So, it seems clear they know they have an issue with performance particularly with multilayered TIFFs. Of course, no indication of timeframe, priority, etc. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks for the update. Refer to this, , which outlines my experience of the same problem under Windows 10. Surprisingly enough no performance issues under Windows 10.

I have the same constant, since version 10, ... Capture one pro has become slow.

Is it possible to download version 9? It worked really better ! 😊

The catalog is also incredibly slow, ...

In addition the difference between 9 and 10 are close to nean compared to my use. I should not have upgraded. But it's not big deal. That's how we learn. 😊
