4.1 - what new features?
The release notes mention 'many new features' in 4.1. Apart from the PO backs and Mamiya stuff, can anyone list them?
Thanks

Did you actually read my post?
Let me repeat
The release notes mention 'many more features are included in Capture One 4.1'. Apart from the PO backs and Mamiya stuff, can anyone list them?
So, I guess no-one has found any of them yet then.0 -
As you see, there are other new cameras supported which is good news only for those having such cameras. 0 -
Frank,
You are right, but they are not 'new features' in 4.1.
Iain0 -
As far as I can see, the shadows/highlight function works much better now. In 4.0.1, moving these sliders resulted in a very flat output image because the tonal range affected was too big. Now it works great for most pictures (although sometimes it would be better to be able to finetune the width of the affected tonal range with a second slider).
Frank0 -
Whether an existing feature works better or not is not the point.
Phase One stated 'Many more features are included in Capture One 4.1, be sure to try them out!'
I'm not trying to be pedantic or negative here, I just want to know what these new features are so that I can try them out!0 -

Due to the unacceptable preview resolution for my camera I still use V3. So I'm not sure... did they maybe add functions to the tools? There is a new tool "composition" (good to play darts on your display 😄 ).

Yes, HDR is much better now!
All in all it's still (or better again) a good software. Me I don't like the interface... so what. The central cache thing should be switchable. Good preview resolution is a must for me (at least as good as in V3). So if they fix this... I am going to use C1 V4 (pro).0 -

Do you have a picture sample to support the claim? From what I see, there is no difference in shadow/highlight function.0 -

Sorry, I've redone the 4.01 files I wasn't content with. You see the difference quite clearly when you move the highlight slider to higher values (e.g. 50 or more). This may not be necessary for your camera, but I own an Olympus E510 which has a certain problem with blown highlights...
Best wishes

I have an E510 too. I compare two JPG files, one rendered by C1 4 and another by C1 4.1. Both have the same settings, including highlight set to 80. But there is no visible difference.
Can you please somehow describe the difference you see?0 -

Just so, Iain. I'm as interested as you are to know the answer to this question, which (with due respect to those who have posted so far) does not seem to be forthcoming as yet. Or (irony of ironies) will you have to raise a support case just to find out what is in the product!?
The 'hot folder' thingy is new, but ranks pretty low on my personal scale of interest. If I understand its function correctly, I can do the same job better by shelling into C1 from another application.
All in all, my current working hypothesis is that 4.1 is a maintenance release that Phase One would have us believe (on the basis of no available evidence) is a significant upgrade. I shall be more than happy for this hypothesis to be proved wrong.

I think they put the 'Many more features are included in Capture One 4.1, be sure to try them out!' with the idea that they were going to actually add more features, but didn't, and forgot to remove this statement. Of course for me I am not using 4.1 because the one new feature it has over 4.01 is that it now does not work with certain screen resolutions and cameras, so I had to uninstall it and go back to 4.01. Progress! 0 -

It's a thought. But the idea that the programmers have that kind of attention span is hardly comforting 😕 I suppose we could comfort ourselves with the thought that they do have a particular expertise in removing features ...0 -
The 'hot folder' thingy is not new
It words in 4.01 also, I used BB dowloader and I downloaded from my 1Dmk2 via FW the filmstrip was updateded automaticly.

Thanks for the correction, Roine. So the one thing I thought was new isn't new at all. And that rather tends to confirm Iain's and my view of things, which is sad.
I too use DL Pro, but I use its companion BB Pro to preview and cull my images before I invoke C1 from BB Pro, which I also use to restore all the EXIF and IPTC data that C1 fails to copy to the conversions. This workflow means that I have no real use for the hot folder. If C1were ever to become the workflow application it claims to be, things might be different.0 -

O.k., I found a picture I had done with 4.01. I used the highlight slider to bring back the sky colour without darkening the face too much. On the picture I've developed with 4.1 the baby's face has much more "depth". In 4.01, the HDR sliders were nearly useless in my opinion because they lowered contrast so much. Now it's much better, though I often wish I could fine-tune the effect with regard to the tonal range that is affected. Nevertheless, it's better than nothing.

In 4.1 the lens aperture is estimated (by comparing the readings of the internal and an external light meters) and added to the EXIF the jpeg or tiff this is produced. You may say , "so what?" but the M8 uses manual lenses which have no way of expressing their aperture setting to the camera, so this indirect information is encoded in the undocumented "Maker Notes" of the M8's DNG files. Leica doesn't document this, but some user reverse-engineering lead to a detailed description of the meta data which you can find at http://bretteville.com/m8metadata.html .

the Hot folder is a different feature, yes the thumbnails generate based on what is in the folder, however the difference is that Hot folder mode will automatically select and display the new image as it comes in.0 -

Thanks, Frank, the improvement seems huge. very glad to see it.0 -

Thanks for coming in on this. Do you have an answer to the original question, which is "what are the new features in version 4.1?"

Yes, Jon. I think we'd all like to know what the 'many new features' are in v4.1.
Frankly, I find it amazing that there has been no input from PO on this, even thought this is technically a user forum.
Iain0 -
New features:
-Phase One digital back tethering which is about 3 times faster than Capture One Pro 3.7.8.
-Lens+/Focus+ for mamiya lenses.
-Phase One raw files can now use the extension .TIF or .IIQ
-Can choose between auto-select new capture, or preview only the captures you select.
-Hot folder functionality.
-new camera support for canon, nikon, pentax, sony and mamiya ZD.
-International language versions.
-Revised activation routine which solve activation problems for many Windows users.
-DB Mode which does not require activation.
-Assorted bug fixes and tool optimizations.
We'd love to be able to spend more time answering questions here on the forum, but unfortunately this is a busy time for us in support between the new camera launch and dealer trainings. Of course you will always get a prompt response to any support case you create. We monitor the system 18-22 hours a day, 5 days a week, with supporters in Denmark, US and Australia.0 -
Thanks for that Jon, and I'm sorry to be pedantic here, but did you read the original post?
All you have done is basically quote from the release notes which lists those features but also says 'many more features are included in Capture One 4.1, be sure to try them out'.
It is those features we want to know about, so that we CAN try them out. Please enlighten us.
Thanks

I guess to be pedantic, many more features ARE included in 4.1. It's just that they were also in 4.0. The release notes listed all the ones that were NEW to 4.1.
Paul0 -
Paul,
I'm sure you're right, and so - as we all suspected - there are no new features in 4.1 for the DSLR user apart from the minor 'hot folder'.
Iain0 -
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for revising the activation routine - I could not activate 4.0 on my Windows machine, no matter what I tried, but now in 4.1 I can activate and use C1. Thanks for listening and for helping.

On my system images now look sharp without zooming to 100%. 🙄0 -

Lucky you!
Still a problem for most people. At 50% with me, the jaggies are horrible. But it does depend on the size of your images.0 -
I'm using a 22" widescreen monitor and the image I click on to view is very sharp at the default scale of 'Fit'. 0 -

Yep, 'to fit' is fine. How does it look at 50%?0
