Tethering with a Display Projector Live Workshop!

Hello everyone...

I am doing a Live Workshop Saturday May 9th...

I was wondering how can I display Capture One
Pro 8?

I have a 2011 iMac and a 2015 5K iMac going
Thunderbolt out to an HDMI in to a Display
Projector.

I have the Spyder 5 Elite software so I can calibrate
the Projector I am just not sure how to set my
Imac or Capture One Pro 8 up.

How do I get the images to show up on the
big screen color calibrated?

I don't think mirroring will work.

Any help would be appreciated.

    First and foremost, a projector is usually not very good to view pictures on.

    That said, just use it an extra monitor and calibrate it as such. Remember to let it warm up completely.

    Capture One-wise it won't be any different from using a second monitor.

    I did something similar with a big TV screen and i1-Display Pro. It was connected using MiniDisplayPort to HDMI (mid 2009 MBP) and configured as a 2nd display. I created a profile for the 2nd display and assigned it. Worked like a charm, MBP display mirrored to 2nd screen, each display used it's own calibration, no changes in CO.

    Sharpness, dynamic and color range are at the low end on a TV screen, but that's not a surprise.

    I can see an option for a Display Projector
    in Spyder Elite 5.

    I don't have the projector with me, we don't get access
    to the venue until Friday , May 8th.

    Do I just assign the profile in the Display preferences
    in the Mac?

    So one profile for the Mac and one for the Projector?

    That way if I say mirror screen but have the display
    projector with a different color profile, is that correct?

    We are shooting to a room of 70 people, so that is why
    we are using a Projector.

    Kind of hard to see a 27 iMac in a room of 70 people.

    Correct. Just create the projector's profile and make sure it is assigned to your projector screen when in dual monitor/mirroring.

    I get it now...

    One other question...

    It looks like the Projector might
    be in 4 by 3 ratio.

    Not sure who still uses that these days.

    Is there anyway to shoot tethered to Capture
    One Pro 8 at 4 by 3 ratio and not suffer from
    image distortion?

    You can set your combination up to use the Mac's or the projector's ratio. Choose what fits your need. With my 16:9 TV I can choose to have a blank top / bottom area on the MBP or a blank left / right area on the TV. I have no visible distortion, because my MBP recognizes the TV size correctly.

    CO will just show the image ratio your camera delivers.

    I just did a test with my 55 Samsung set to the 4 by 3 ratio and all the images I shot appeared compressed regardless of the screen resolution I choose.

    Any idea what I am doing wrong?

    I mirrored my display and switched the tv to 4 by 3 to approximate the display projector.

    The images appear squished.

    The TV reports itself as 16:9 HDMI, no matter what ratio you force it to read from HDMI input. At least my Samsung does.

    Set your Mac's screen and output to a 4:3 resolution that matches your projector. This will give you correct x and y proportions. The TV will adjust to the incoming 4:3 image according to it´s settings for the 4:3 image size: 4:3, stretched, or zoomed. Don't double the adjustment by forcing the 16:9 TV format to be 4:3.

    😄 There could be more. No problem.

    Choose one. 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768... They all work with my TV.
    I have seen it working with a 4:3 beamer and correct x and y proportions. Not with my own MBP, but I know it works. Only problem could be to find a suitable resolution that works on both, beamer and Mac.

    Don't try to use an Apple TV. You cannot assign a profile to it. ☹️
