Same here. Spot removal doesn't do anything at all, just puts the spot.

P.S. Once you mark the spots in C1 you can use another software to remove them and use C1 as a reference to see where you found the spots (Joke 😊)

Well...I´cant give you any specific reason why it didn´t work for me earlier. The only thing I can tell is, that originally I installed the program to a computer that I use at my job site (just to explore CO5 untill I get home) which it´s quite old, sluggish and slow, poor graphics driver, insufficient RAM and what not.

When I got home I installed CO5 to my home computer which I use for image processing (Intel DualCore, 4 G ram.....) and vóila - The dust removal tool worked like charm 😄

Using it is as simple as it should be... Pick the dust removal tool, point a dust spot in the image, drag the circle a bit larger than the dust spot - And that is all.

I figured it - it removes only dust and not spots. The dust is softer, has some details in it and has similar color to the surroundings. For example this tool can't remove birthmarks.

Which reminds me that CO5 User quide (page 116) states that there would be a drop-down menu (in the dust removal tool) from which to choose dust or spot removal...

Well, the menu is there...but it only offers one choice - Dust-removal ❗️

""You can have as many dust removal markings as you need, switch
between the individual removal circles in the spot drop-down menu,
the selected marking will turn orange - this way you can change a circle
    from dust to spot removal""

That would indicate this release was planned to hve both dust/spot, but did'nt....and it's not enough to stop the release or rewrite the manual. Expect this to be included very soon....there's going to be some updates to Canon's profiles due to camera announcements, probably a good thought to release, then update the tool with the profiles....

...this is not from PhaseOne, just guessing.....the initial release of 4.0 had several blank pages in the PDF manual...those were added as the toolset expanded.

Well...Just got home and did some experimenting with the dust removal tool and I must say, that I sure hope that PO would do some improvements to it since as it is now...I can´t see what good is it for !

What I mean is, that is a dust spot in the image and this tool can´t do anything to it ❗️ Then what can it do...beats me...

It can only remove dust which is not so pronounced. I think it only changes the color in place. It doesn't copy a part from another place on an image. So it can only repair a place which has same color as surroundings, but a little darker.

There will be a Spotting tool in later release.

What we need to take note right now is that the Dust tool is for touching up dust spots caused by some dirt on the sensor. It does nothing for removing small artefacts caused by out of focus birds or insects that happen to be in the frame nor does it clean up pimples on a portrait. It purely alter the density of the spot area and because sensor dust appear round, the tool is also round only.

    That is great news.

That is dust/dirt on the sensor in the image...

But yes...I understand why the tool can´t erase it.
