Hefty File size increase CO7 converted jpeg
A second try to get some attention for the following:
-Output a 16 bit 300 ppi Tiff or Psd from a pentax k-5 raw file, convert in photoshop cs6 to an 8 bit jpeg. Using the EXACT same settings in COv6 and COv7, as well as in Photoshop cs6, I noticed the jpeg from COv7 is around 3,2 mb, whereas the exact same jpeg was around 1,3 mb from COv6.
Has nobody else noticed this hefty increase in file size?
Again: output settings in CO6 and CO7 exactly the same, conversion settings in Photoshop cs6 exactly the same. Conversion to a landscape 8 bit 1400px jpeg.
I'm puzzled!

Let me answer my own post! Here is a copy of my reply to Phase one support:
Hello,
I have tested with several raw files and conversions to jpeg.
It appears a coincidence that this increase in file size started with the install of capture one 7!
All raw files that I now edit and convert to 8 bit jpeg are 2 to 3 times as large as all jpeg generated before last week.
I have not changed any settings, and it is not related to either resolution, bit depth, quality setting (always at 100%), or including preview or not.
I can no longer generate the same 1-1,5 mb 1400px 8-bit jpegs, all generated jpegs are now around 3,5 mb. I have not a clue to as what is the cause of this, but it does not seem CO7 related.
In other words, something else has changed on my system, that I am still not aware of (I am on a Macbook pro with mountain lion and photoshop cs6). Possibly I am overlooking something, but 3,5 mb 1400px 8-bit jpegs is a new phenomenon to me.
Not CO7 related though

Good morning Chris,
This sounds familiar – in my case, familiar from CaptureOne 6. Exporting scaled-down JPEGs has always resulted in huge files for me, even with JPEG quality set to 10 % for testing purposes. 960x exports I use for web catalogs usually ended up around 2-3 MB – exporting original size and scaling down in an image editor resulted in images around 300-500 KB.
I thought this was just CaptureOne’s way, but if you say this didn’t happen on your Mac version of CO-6 I, too, wonder whether there’s something wonky in my settings. (Various Macs here.)
I’ll investigate over the week-end and keep you posted whether I find anything. Would simplify my workflow tremendously if I didn’t have to send every single image I need to put on the web through Photoline first …
Cheers,

Hello Sascha,
Thanks for your input.
What you are experiencing seems identical to what I am experiencing: large jpeg file sizes, even with quality at the lowest 10% still well above 2 mb for a 1400px 8bit jpeg.
However, I have done some further tests, and my issue is not related to CO1v7.
It appears to be a coincidence that the sudden file size doubling started around the time I purchased CO7. I have been nailing the issue down to the "save as jpeg" in Photoshop cs6, and I am sure that this is not setting related, not to do with either the quality setting, the resolution setting or including the preview.
When I open a 1,2 mb 8bit jpeg, and use the "save as" command to store a copy, this copy is suddenly around 2,5 mb.
Furthermore, when I convert with the "save for web" command, the jpeg's turn out at around 1 mb.
It seems that I will have to turn to the photoshop fora to find out.
Jpegs out of CO1v7 are around the same file size as conversions from PSD/TIFF in photoshop with "save for web", around 1mb.
Our issues are identical though.
