Color Editor Not Functioning as a Local Adjustment

Local adjustments are limited to a very small set of tools.
You can open other tools in the local adjustment layer pallet, but they will not work on the layer.

Also what is worse many adjustments done on the base layer adversely effect the local adjustment layers
    and cannot be reversed.

For example if you set your curves for a color correction on the base layer, desaturating even to 0 on an adjustment layer
will result in tinted black and white, not 100% desaturation.

Layers in CO7 are very limiting. If you want much better layer adjustments and still have a non destructive workflow you can use "RAW Layers" in Photoshop using ACR (or lightroom) with smart object layers.
This will give you much more freedom and let you mix in destructive layers with full Photoshop adjustments, filters and plugins.

Just keep CO7s local adjustment layers for simple basic corrections.

Would you please test this on your machine and see if it is working? Any assistance or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just to be sure I tried it (Macbook Pro mavericks)
Yup it does not work on layers.

I understand that local adjustments are limited to a few tools, but Color Editor is one of the five that is supposed to work on layers (Exposure, Sharpening, Clarity, Moire, & Color Editor). Of these five, four work and one does not.

Thanks, that is very helpful; I can stop trying to troubleshoot it as a local issue. I opened a tech support case and hopefully PhaseOne will address the issue soon.

I just tested on my machine (Mac Mini, 10.9.4), and found out that the basic tab of the Color Editor does not work on layers, whereas the advanced tab works as expected (the Advanced tab is only available in the Pro edition). That would be a bug as far as I know.

Same thing with me and skins tones are not affected by local adjustment either...

    Hi guys,

    Working with Local Adjustments..:
    - the Basic Color editor is disabled
    - the Advanced Color Editor works with LA's
    - the Skintone tool works with LA's.

I have just re-tested all of the above on 7.2.3, and it is working as designed. Remember that a layer will only affect the image if it has a mask.
If you don't have this behavior, please contact our Support guys. They will help You sort things out.

On my system, the color editor basic or advanced doesn't work on layers including a mask. Any adjustment made affect the whole image and not only tha masked area. Using exposure adjustment works correctly on the masked layer... 😭

You're probably adjusting it from the Exposure Tool Tab. Then it will adjust the entire image.
When you're working in the default workspace, you have to go to the Local Adjustments Tool tab to go adjust locally using masks.

You can however enable the LA-capable tools in other tabs to work locally as well. Just tick "Adjust selected Layer" in the triangle in the upper right corner of the tool.

Hum... I noticed that is works with Raw images from my EOS450D and not with RAW files from my Fuji XE-1...
    Still an X-Trans problem?

No, no... I'm working in the correct place... And Adjust selected layer is selected...

I said that using the color editor on a masked layer affects selected color range in the mask and outside the mask.
Using the exposure tab from the LZ tool only affects the mask.

Sorry to disturb the forum mentioning possible bugs that seem to be in fact manipulation errors from myself... However I go on investigating and will confirm or not my "errors"...

If you mean Fuji X-E1, it works fine on a layer with Color Editor Advanced, on mask only, not outside mask.

Are you on CO Pro 7.2.3? Has the Color Editor tool enabled the 'Adjust Selected Layer' option (small brush in tool's header visible)?
